If you really want to take it to the next level get a Mac G5 and use Final Cut Pro. For what you are interested in doing it is, in my opinion, far and away the best.

It will handle anything you want to do.
I got a G5 - it's hubby's actually - but it's a good little 'puter. Never considered using it for this, but that's because I'm mostly a PC person.... We may even have Final Cut Pro on it - it came with a bunch of stuff on it because we got it second hand. Hmmmm.....

I use iMovie. It is simple to use and does just about all that you would need.
I have Final Cut Pro and it has a BIG learning curve.
