Pick a theme song for your life

They want to do a show about you, or a film. You have to pick a theme song.

What would you pick and why?

I would pick "I will survive" Cause I have been in a lot of situations where I had to get that attitude and move forward. Mostly due to some guy, or some ministry but when I got "it" back I could walk.

I Will Survive Lyrics

by Gloria Gaynor

First I was afraid

I was petrified

Kept thinking I could never live

without you by my side

But I spent so many nights

thinking how you did me wrong

I grew strong

I learned how to carry on

and so you're back

from outer space

I just walked in to find you here

with that sad look upon your face

I should have changed my stupid lock

I should have made you leave your key

If I had known for just one second

you'd be back to bother me

Go on now go walk out the door

just turn around now

'cause you're not welcome anymore

weren't you the one who tried to hurt me with goodbye

you think I'd crumble

you think I'd lay down and die

Oh no, not I

I will survive

as long as i know how to love

I know I will stay alive

I've got all my life to live

I've got all my love to give

and I'll survive

I will survive

It took all the strength I had

not to fall apart

kept trying hard to mend

the pieces of my broken heart

and I spent oh so many nights

just feeling sorry for myself

I used to cry

Now I hold my head up high

and you see me

somebody new

I'm not that chained up little person

still in love with you

and so you felt like dropping in

and just expect me to be free

now I'm saving all my loving

for someone who's loving me

Dot, I thought long and hard about what you asked and I can only come up with one at this moment.....

"Wild One"

They said change your clothes

She said no I won't

They said comb your hair

She said some kids don't

And her parents dreams went up in smoke

They said you can't leave

She said yes I will

They said don't see him

She said his name is Bill

She's on a roll and it's all uphill

She's a wild one

With an angel's face

She's a woman-child

In a state of grace

When she was 3 years old on her daddy's knee

He said you can be anything you want to be

She's a wild one

Runnin' free

She loves Rock and Roll

They said it's Satan's tongue

She thinks they're too old

They think she's too young

And the battle lines are clearly drawn

She's a wild one

With an angel's face

She's a woman-child

In a state of grace

When she was 3 years old on her daddy's knee

He said you can be anything you want to be

She's a wild one

Runnin' free

She has future plans and dreams at night

When they tell her life is hard she says that's alright

She's a wild one

With an angel's face

She's a woman-child

In a state of grace

When she was 3 years old on her daddy's knee

He said you can be anything you want to be

She's a wild one

Runnin' free

This would be my theme song. It's inspired me more times than I could ever say and it speaks volumes for not giving up and remembering to keep it simple in the heart yet see the bigger goal.

I Hope You Dance

Artist: Lee Ann Womack

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder

You get your fill to eat

But always keep that hunger

May you never take one single breath for granted

God forbid love ever leave you empty handed

I hope you still feel small

When you stand by the ocean

Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens

Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance

I hope you dance

I hope you dance

I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance

Never settle for the path of least resistance

Living might mean taking chances

But they're worth taking

Lovin' might be a mistake

But it's worth making

Don't let some hell bent heart

Leave you bitter

When you come close to selling out

Reconsider

Give the heavens above

More than just a passing glance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance

I hope you dance

(Time is a real and constant motion always)

I hope you dance

(Rolling us along)

I hope you dance

(Tell me who)

I hope you dance

(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)

(Where those years have gone)

I hope you still feel small

When you stand by the ocean

Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens

Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance

Dance

I hope you dance

I hope you dance

(Time is a real and constant motion always)

I hope you dance

(Rolling us along)

I hope you dance

(Tell me who)

(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)

I hope you dance

(Where those years have gone)

(Tell me who)

I hope you dance

(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)

(Where those years have gone)

I have to think about that one. Right now I'm leaning towards "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer", but that's too seasonal, so maybe "Dead Skunk in the Middle of the Road", but that's too Arkinsaw, and I've lived in Texas, Florida and California, too.

I gotta think about it some more.

Redneck Girl

Bellamy Brothers

Redneck girl likes to cruise in Daddy's pickup truck

And a redneck girl plays her hard when she's down on her luck

Living for a friday afternoon

She's gonna show one ole boy that we can move

And I pray that someday I will find me a redneck girl

Redneck girl likes to stay out all night long

She makes sweet rock n' roll while she listens to the country songs

She's waitin' for that moment of surrender

Her hands are calloused but her heart is tender

And I pray that someday I will find me a redneck girl

Oh, give me a give me a give me a redneck girl

Give me a give me a give me a redneck girl

Oh, give me a give me a give me a redneck girl

Give me a give me a give me a redneck girl

A redneck girl got a name on the back of her belt

She's got a kiss on her lips for her man and no one else

A coyote's howling out on the prairie

First comes love then comes marriage

And I pray that someday I will find me a redneck girl

Yeah, give me a, give me a, give me a redneck girl

Home Again In My Heart

One in a million in a lonely town,

Two hundred people trying to keep me down,

I've taken all I can, I ain't lookin' back.

Small town boy in a back yard lot,

Can't make a living with the luck I've got

I'm gonna leave it all, I ain't looking back.

That's the way I remember, it seemed to me when I was young.

But I can still see the leaves slowly fall to the ground,

And the snow on the trees as the winter comes down.

Still I go home again in my heart.

My father worked hard on the railroad track;

37 years cut across his back,

He gave it all he had for what he believed.

Like every other kid that came before,

I grew up believing there was something more

And I still believe, I still believe.

That's the way I remember, it seemed to me when I was young.

But I can still see the leaves slowly fall to the ground,

And the snow on the trees as the winter comes down.

Still I go home again in my heart.

But I can still see the lightning on a warm summer night

And the rain on the roof when I close my eyes;

I can still hear us laughing on the front porch in the dark.

There are days when I know that I've traveled so far

That I'll never find the road leading back to the start,

Still I go home again in my heart

Still I go home again in my heart

In my heart, in my heart

Written by carol king and gerry goffin

Oh I’d rather go and journey

Where the diamond crescent’s glowing and

Run across the valley

Beneath the sacred mountain

And wander through the forest

Where the trees have leaves of prisms

And break the light in colors

That no-one knows the names of

And when it’s time I’ll go and wait

Beside a legendary fountain

Till I see your form reflected

In it’s clear and jeweled waters

And if you think I’m ready

You may lead me to the chasm

Where the rivers of our vision

Flow into one another

I will watch her dive beneath

The white cascading waters

She may beg she may plead

She may argue with her logic

And then mention all the things I’ll lose

That really have no value

In the end she will surely know

I wasn’t born to follow

I am Woman - - - by Helen Reddy

I am woman, hear me roar

In numbers too big to ignore

And I know too much to go back an' pretend

'cause I've heard it all before

And I've been down there on the floor

No one's ever gonna keep me down again

CHORUS

Oh yes I am wise

But it's wisdom born of pain

Yes, I've paid the price

But look how much I gained

If I have to, I can do anything

I am strong (strong)

I am invincible (invincible)

I am woman

You can bend but never break me

'cause it only serves to make me

More determined to achieve my final goal

And I come back even stronger

Not a novice any longer

'cause you've deepened the conviction in my soul

CHORUS

I am woman watch me grow

See me standing toe to toe

As I spread my lovin' arms across the land

But I'm still an embryo

With a long long way to go

Until I make my brother understand

Oh yes I am wise

But it's wisdom born of pain

Yes, I've paid the price

But look how much I gained

If I have to I can face anything

I am strong (strong)

I am invincible (invincible)

I am woman

Oh, I am woman

I am invincible

I am strong

Precious Lord.

Precious Lord, take my hand,

Lead me on, let me stand,

I am tired, I am weak, I am worn;

Through the storm, through the night,

Lead me on to the light:

Refrain

Take my hand, precious Lord,

Lead me home.

When my way grows drear,

Precious Lord, linger near,

When my life is almost gone,

Hear my cry, hear my call,

Hold my hand lest I fall:

Refrain

When the darkness appears

And the night draws near,

And the day is past and gone,

At the river I stand,

Guide my feet, hold my hand:

Refrain

(Somewhere there is a clip of Elvis singing this)

For me, I think it would be the Allman Brothers, Soulshine:

Allman Brothers Band - Soulshine Lyrics

Transcribed by Sean Carpenter

When you can't find the light,

That got you through the cloudy days,

When the stars ain't shinin' bright,

You feel like you've lost you're way,

When those candle lights of home,

Burn so very far away,

Well you got to let your soul shine,

Just like my daddy used to say.

[Chorus]

He used to say soulshine,

It's better than sunshine,

It's better than moonshine,

D@mn sure better than rain.

Hey now people don't mind,

We all get this way sometime,

Got to let your soul shine, shine till the break of day.

I grew up thinkin' that I had it made,

Gonna make it on my own.

Life can take the strongest man,

Make him feel so alone.

Now and then I feel a cold wind,

Blowin' through my achin' bones,

I think back to what my daddy said,

He said "Boy, in the darkness before the dawn:"

[Chorus]

Let your soul shine,

It's better than sunshine,

It's better than moonshine,

D@mn sure better than rain.

Yeah now people don't mind,

We all get this way sometimes,

Gotta let your soul shine, shine till the break of day.

Sometimes a man can feel this emptiness,

Like a woman has robbed him of his very soul.

A woman too, God knows, she can feel like this.

And when your world seems cold, you got to let your spirit take control.

[Chorus]

Let your soul shine,

It's better than sunshine,

It's better than moonshine,

D@mn sure better than rain.

Lord now people don't mind,

We all get this way sometimes,

Gotta let your soul shine, shine till the break of day.

Oh, it's better than sunshine,

It's better than moonshine,

D@mn sure better than rain.

Yeah now people don't mind,

We all get this way sometimes,

Gotta let your soul shine, shine till the break of day.

Today, it is I WANT TO KNOW WHAT LOVE IS.........BY FOREIGNER

I gotta take a little time

A little time to think things over

I better read between the lines

In case I need it when I’m older

Now this mountain I must climb

Feels like a world upon my shoulders

I through the clouds I see love shine

It keeps me warm as life grows colder

In my life there’s been heartache and pain

I don’t know if I can face it again

Can’t stop now, I’ve traveled so far

To change this lonely life

I wanna know what love is

I want you to show me

I wanna feel what love is

I know you can show me

I’m gonna take a little time

A little time to look around me

I’ve got nowhere left to hide

It looks like love has finally found me

In my life there’s been heartache and pain

I don’t know if I can face it again

I can’t stop now, I’ve traveled so far

To change this lonely life

I wanna know what love is

I want you to show me

I wanna feel what love is

I know you can show me

I wanna know what love is

I want you to show me

And I wanna feel, I want to feel what love is

And I know, I know you can show me

Let’s talk about love

I wanna know what love is, the love that you feel inside

I want you to show me, and I’m feeling so much love

I wanna feel what love is, no, you just cannot hide

I know you can show me, yeah

I wanna know what love is, let’s talk about love

I want you to show me, I wanna feel it too

I wanna feel what love is, I want to feel it too

And I know and I know, I know you can show me

Show me love is real, yeah

I wanna know what love is

Catch me next month for a different song

That's Life

Frank Sinatra

That's life, that's what all the people say.

You're riding high in April,

Shot down in May

But I know I'm gonna change that tune,

When I'm back on top, back on top in June.

I said that's life, and as funny as it may seem

Some people get their kicks,

Stompin' on a dream

But I don't let it, let it get me down,

'Cause this fine ol' world it keeps spinning around

I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate,

A poet, a pawn and a king.

I've been up and down and over and out

And I know one thing:

Each time I find myself, flat on my face,

I pick myself up and get back in the race.

That's life

I tell ya, I can't deny it,

I thought of quitting baby,

But my heart just ain't gonna buy it.

And if I didn't think it was worth one single try,

I'd jump right on a big bird and then I'd fly

I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate,

A poet, a pawn and a king.

I've been up and down and over and out

And I know one thing:

Each time I find myself laying flat on my face,

I just pick myself up and get back in the race

That's life

That's life and I can't deny it

Many times I thought of cutting out

But my heart won't buy it

But if there's nothing shakin' come this here july

I'm gonna roll myself up in a big ball and die

My, My

Home Grown Tomatoes

By Guy Clark ---

Ain't nothin' in the world that I like better,

Than bacon & lettuce & homegrown tomatoes.

Up in the mornin', out in the garden,

Get you a ripe one -- don't get a hard one.

Plant 'em in the spring, eat 'em in the summer.

All winter with out 'em's a culinary bummer.

I forget all about the sweatin' & diggin',

Everytime I go out & pick me a big one.

Homegrown tomatoes. Homegrown tomatoes.

What'd life be without homegrown tomatoes?

Only two things that money can't buy,

And that's true love & homegrown tomatoes.

You can go out to eat & that's for sure.

But it's nothin' that a homegrown tomato won't cure.

Put 'em in a salad, put 'em in a stew,

You can make your very own toe-maw-toe juice.

Eat 'em with eggs, eat 'em with gravy,

Eat 'em with beans, both pinto and navy.

Put 'em on the side, put 'em in the middle,

Put a homegrown tomato on a hotcake griddle.

If I was to change this life I lead,

I'd be Johnny Tomato Seed.

Cause I know what this country needs ---

Homegrown tomatoes in every yard you see.

When I die don't bury me,

In a box in a cemetary.

Out in the garden would be much better,

Where I could be pushin' up homegrown tomatoes.

Homegrown tomatoes. Homegrown tomatoes.

What would life be without homegrown tomatoes?

Only two things that money can't buy,

And that's true love & homegrown tomatoes.

(like Radar said --- Catch me next month for a different song).

"The Impossible Dream"

from MAN OF LA MANCHA (1972)

music by Mitch Leigh and lyrics by Joe Darion

Click here "The Impossible Dream" (a .MP3 file courtesy MGM).

To dream the impossible dream

To fight the unbeatable foe

To bear with unbearable sorrow

To run where the brave dare not go

To right the unrightable wrong

To love pure and chaste from afar

To try when your arms are too weary

To reach the unreachable star

This is my quest

To follow that star

No matter how hopeless

No matter how far

To fight for the right

Without question or pause

To be willing to march into Hell

For a heavenly cause

And I know if I'll only be true

To this glorious quest

That my heart will lie peaceful and calm

When I'm laid to my rest

And the world will be better for this

That one man, scorned and covered with scars

Still strove with his last ounce of courage

To reach the unreachable star

Song: Tomorrow Lyrics

[ANNIE]The sun'll come out

Tomorrow

Bet your bottom dollar

That tomorrow

There'll be sun!

Just thinkin' about

Tomorrow

Clears away the cobwebs,

And the sorrow

'Til there's none!

When I'm stuck a day

That's gray,

And lonely,

I just stick out my chin

And Grin,

And Say,

Oh!

The sun'll come out

Tomorrow

So ya gotta hang on

'Til tomorrow

Come what may

Tomorrow! Tomorrow!

I love ya Tomorrow!

You're always

A day

A way!

For you, Jim-one of my fav's, too....

I am just a poor boy and my story’s seldom told

I’ve squandered my resistance for a pocketful of mumbles, such are promises

All lies and jest, still the man hears what he wants to hear

And disregards the rest, hmmmm

When I left my home and my family, I was no more than a boy

In the company of strangers

In the quiet of the railway station, runnin’ scared

Laying low, seeking out the poorer quarters, where the ragged people go

Looking for the places only they would know

Li la li...

Asking only workman’s wages, I come lookin’ for a job, but I get no offers

Just a comeon from the whores on 7th avenue

I do declare, there were times when I was so lonesome

I took some comfort there

Now the years are rolling by me, they are rockin’ even me

I am older than I once was, and younger than I’ll be, that’s not unusual

No it isn’t strange, after changes upon changes, we are more or less the same

After changes we are more or less the same

Li la li...

And I’m laying out my winter clothes, wishing I was gone, goin’ home

Where the new york city winters aren’t bleedin’ me, leadin’ me to go home

In the clearing stands a boxer, and a fighter by his trade

And he carries the reminders of every glove that laid him down or cut him

’til he cried out in his anger and his shame

I am leaving, I am leaving, but the fighter still remains

Yes he still remains

Li la li...
