The guitar in the eBay listing is in China - most Chinese made guitars are crap. Japanese or USA made are different - better craftsmenship. As with many things these days, there are just a couple of factories that make certain items - they are dedicated to that item - like guitars - but they make them for several labels. I would guess that this was a crap guitar made with a Gibson label slapped on the headstock. It may even have a legit serial number (i.e. the number will be in sync with the numbers issued at that time) BUT try contacting Gibson after you get the thing and see what support they can give you?

This same seller also sells Ibanez - he has a listing for a JEM w/ Monkey Grip - if you look at the area around the pups, there's noticable gaps.

This link is from another forum that I haunt - Ibanez Collectors Forum. They had quite a discussion about cheep Chinese junk - check out the photos - I cringe - bad, bad workmanship:

About the Harp Guitar - if y'all ever get to Boston, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts has a great collection of instruments to see and sometimes there's demos - worth the trip!

I've also had a chance to see Chet Atkins collection (part of it, I'm sure) when I lived in Nashville. At the time I didn't have a lot of appreciation for what I was looking at ("Ohhhh... look at the blue one!" ) it was on display at OperyLand. I wish I could find a link for it now - I'm hoping it wasn't sold in an estate sale after his death... that would be heartbreaking!

Michael Hedges - great stuff. One of his older tunes I love is "Woman of the World". It just floats along so nicely with long gaps of strumming that are just beautiful.

I think you may have the lowdown on that Les Paul Chas. I visitied that Ibanez board, and took a look at mine, an older Japanese made RG 560. It seems to follow most of the comparisons they show between the real and the fakes. I don't play it much but it's a nice guitar. That Les Paul may be a "real" fake, which I've never seen before. Very interesting.

My dad and I fought over him and Jimi Hendrix all the time. He gave up figuring I'd have to grow out of it. But he was right Chet Akins was incredible. I can only imagine the young men and women (though less) that looked to him for their inspiration.

Okay I came back and ain't gonna explain what the heck I did but enjoy this song below anyway. :redface2:

I hope you have some fun in the middle of your away week. And I'm sure these awesome string lovers/players will keep this puppy alive for ya.

I have a Joyful Noise CD that Ted gave me that has some great pictures of you on it. I never told ya this while we were hanging out but you're a real cutie ya know that. :wink2:

And thanks for calling me the full name and not CK cause I wouldn't have ever said anything to you my old friend. But since there are two of us CK's here I prefer not to be one I reckon.

Socks -- a G.A.S trip?? ;)

Is guitar the G word?

I sent a question to the seller of the "Gibson" 335, asking what year, where it was made, etc. This is the reply I got back:

Isn't the Gibson of the real famous brand, is the reproduction of the high exquisite mimicry, the shipping is $475.676 Dollars.

I like that..."the high exquisite mimicry"! Translation: "It's a cheap peice of crap and we are charging more for shipping alone than what the guitar is worth". :)

Thank you very much! :)

Okay here is the report. The reason I couldn't verify my information is because Ted and Rick just happened to be on the phone with each other. :)

And I didn't screw up which I know y'all knew but dang that was an uncomfortable feeling for a few minutes cause I could have sworn it had been spoken of here and you would never want to reveal a person. My goodness that was uncomfortable for awhile.

ChattyKathy -- fer what it's worth -- I have heard Socks and Ted talking about Joyful Noise as well, and their (combined) involvement in it. And that doesn't include the quote you provided. :)

Uncomfortable? -- yea -- it must have beeen for a bit, but rest easy. ;)

Actually... I feel like the dumb bunny because I didn't know, yet it had been posted. Just put it together really... I just didn't frequent any of the music threads before this because... well.... until I picked up bass guitar, I played the whimpiest of instruments... something just a hair above a kazoo.... Yes, I am flautist. There. Out of the closet.

So, you can understand why I didn't know this before....
