TWI's current topic - Strong in the Lord

The following is from TWI's "What's New" - February section of their web site: http://www.theway.org/Monthly/02Feb/How%20...0the%20Lord.htm

Men and women desiring to be strong in the Lord our God can take specific actions that help them to tap in to the power of His might. These include faithfully reading and studying the Bible, praying to our heavenly Father, sharing of our abundance financially [emphasis mine], fellowshipping with like-minded believers, and sharing the greatness of His Word with those who do not know it.

Is it just me, or didn't it used to be only "sharing of abundance?"

Either way, rather blunt, eh? We teach you how to do the 4 other things, you give us your money. Otherwise, you cannot tap into God's power. Of course, sharing refers to a one-way street between everyone and those in charge of the group.

I don't think sharing is honest either. I think tax would be a more appropriate word. It more accurately captures the extortion aspect of it.

They have been teaching these in the past as "The 5 Vital Signs of a Believer."

Not that I particularly disagree with anyone of these from a principle point of

view, but what I noticed they left out was "Speaking in Tongues" from their list

of the 5....now only listing 4. Wonder if it was just an oversight, or a change in

doctrinal emphasis. I vonder vhy? Velly Intelesting......

They don't advertise speaking in tounges on their web site. It's intentionly left out.

Most people get turned off by it and TWI doesn't want them running until they've had a chance to get some of their claws into them.

Does anyone know who has traditionally been charged with the responsibilty of coming up with these themes or has it been a variety of people ? Back in the day it appeared that VPW was the one who was coming up with various concepts (america awakes) but given that he had no problems taking credit for the works of others I wouldn't be surprised if someone else came up with the idea. Now I'm not at all saying that these various themes are great or even good but I'm curious who on staff gets "the revelation" to determine the annual theme.

So, are they trinitarians now? or is Jesus Christ out of the picture altogether?

I noticed the little blurb in quotes doesn't mention the identity of the Lord being Jesus Christ at all.

So if a Muslim found this sight, I guess they'd be happy. ;)

Wow Ex10 your right. I read the whole thing and not a mention of Jesus Christ. I doubt they are trinitarians heheheh. I wonder when they will put the teachings of lcm behind them as an "old wine skin" and put Jesus Christ back in twi.

I first heard these as the "Pentateuch of P's for Practical living." John Lynn used to teach it and at the time the teaching was based on the 5 unique occurences ot prothumos. If memory serves right the word only occurs 5 times in the Book of Acts and each time it is followed by major growth of the Church. And yes, the use referring to finances was to give of one's abundance - TWI has CHANGED a word ( signs of a fall coming!) to make it FINANCIAL giving. Of course they don't really want anyone giving them anything else.

And ex10 I noticed that too - very little mention of Jesus Christ. I think this omission is so that they don't have to tip their hand before the indoctrination. It seems to me that they are being VERY careful with what gets written - casting the widest net possible. The last time (and only) I looked at their website it looked tired and stilted. Everything I always hated about religion to begin with.

I noticed this mysef ex10, But to me it's typical of TWI with it's absent Christ doctrine.

Did you ever notice the phrase "Lord thy God" does not appear anywhere in the New Testament? Well it does appear in the gospels, but not in the Epistles anywhere!

God made Jesus Christ Lord? Acts 2:36

And Philippians chapter 2:9-11 says;

"9Therefore God exalted him to the highest place

and gave him the name that is above every name,

10that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,

in heaven and on earth and under the earth,

11and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,

to the glory of God the Father. "

Jesus Christ is lord to the glory of God. Yet, in TWI he wasn't even mentioned at the AOS production, it was the "minister" that made intercession with God, Jesus was knowhere to be found in that pathetic show!

Not much of a Christian organization when they consider Christ absent?

Okay, I'm done with my rant! :asdf:

"Be Strong in The Lord" was the yearly theme at ROA 1991.

That was what I was thinking when I read the thread topic.

:offtopic: You remember the LAME song they wrote for ROA that year? Be-e-e strong in the lord and the power of his might. Come on, making the word "be" a three syllable word?

They want to be "Strong in the Lord"? How about integreityTruthful?Gods divine favor? The sacrifice our Lod

and savior did for us?

Twis idea is beating people in the head with thier lame same of the one true household, and if you leave it God will not even spit in your direction. It is Gods divine favor who made us who we are,by way of his son

Remember?"You tell me what you think of Jesus and I will tell you how far you go spiritually."Well, they must not think alot of him,if he is absent.

Since when is abs a requirment for healing?????

You look back..All twi is ever been was about money,They never cared squat about the indivudual, just how

much money you had or were willing to give. :offtopic:

I think I would rather go to a casino with my money than give it to twi,at least I know I will get screwed

ahead of time.

Well, it has been their normal operation to not mention Jesus that much--even during weeks leading up to Resurrection Sunday. They focus on Passover and other stuff then. I think someone said the main theme for this year was based off of John 8:31-32. Maybe several innies will finally chose to be set free FOR REAL this ministry year. I know of quite a few myself

Remember how VPW would teach in graphic detail about what happened to Jesus prior to his death-the beatings, tortures, etc-taking all our sins and disease upon Him?

You don't suppose-could it possible be-is it remotely concievable that........

He caused His own death because of negative believing?!?!?!.........

....and that's why we don't hear much about Him from TWI.....

Just thinking out loud.

I'd better get offa mah arse then. I just won the $180 million lotto and they don't want God cheated out of any impending interest.

Let's see ... $180 million, taking the lump sum payout and after taxes ... I should get approx $60 million. I called HQ last night to share what God did for me and told them I'd be sending in by blue forms for the ABS for this week to the tune of $60,000,003.73 (the $3.73 was from the other 10 in my twig). Well, they were claudette royally hacked off. Spewed at me for cheating God, that I should have ABS'd the entire $180 mil. I tried to tell them that I took the lump sum payoff option, and that the IRS got their portion prior to my receiving anything, but this apparently hacked them worse, because I wasn't sharp enough to ABS the $ FIRST and THEN take the payout option and subsequent tax, that "where was my head at??", that had I done the right thing I would have had NO taxes to pay. Well, I guess they have a point there. Anyways, I am no longer welcome at the way. They have no friends at the way, only stranger they haven't bilked yet ...
