NAw, they don't see leadership that way anymore, FOR NOW! They are still "waiting for a prophet."

(direct quote by the way)

It is definately Bible Worship. The Word, the Word, the Word..........

They "think" they are worshipping God, so sad.

I was confronted with this by a lovely Christian woman a few months ago, when I shared my story.

She looked me straight in the eye and said, "sounds to me that you guys worship the bible."

Nailed it.

I dont know what it is now

When I was in there was a hardcore case of bibliolatry, followed closely behind by exalting and revering the leadership. So thats how I voted--It wasn't until I was out for quite awhile that I realized that God was barely in the mix, if at all

Hmmmm. I can see why they don't.

Imagine Rosie's face on the cover whenever they publish. :o

(Did they really say they are waiting for a prophet???

That's a new one to me.)

Curious -- where did that quote come from??

I (kinda) agree, Mstar. I grant you the fact that it was THE BIBLE that we were told to follow,

But --- we were all inundated with/ by *teachers*

(docvic and on down)

And I'm a'thinking that they held the higher pre-eminence.

Dunno. It's a close call either way.

Sometimes (these days) I wonder if we were supposed to follow the bible,

or the man that held it (twi), telling us what it said.

Am truely glad I do not have to worry about that anymore. :)

Well, the key was, as later groups saw more and more overtly,

it's NOT the BIBLE,

but the teachings of hq and leaders

which supposedly REFLECT the Bible.

The idea of you reading it yourself was-OFFICIALLY-encouraged,

but in PRACTICE, DIScouraged.

Rozilla has said that reading your BIBLE isn't necessary if you're

reading their magazine and getting their tapes.

Ever see a corps grad or BC or higher wince at the idea of

people doing their OWN research and sharing it?

I, myself, was told that had been a PROBLEM and was not

seen as a good idea.

(Which I translated as "don't let me know you're actually

reading it/teaching it" since I was going to carry on

regardless.)

I was recommended instead to just go over the

collaterals.

So, when faced with a discrepancy between the Bible and

the leadership, you were expected to follow leadership,

which led to the claim that "God will cover"-

follow leadership even off the Word, and everything

will be fine ANYWAY.

I put leaders...because we were told that to obey the leaders was our primary responsibility.

It they were wrong, God would cover because of our hearts and believing....Right or wrong the leaders had final say....in spite of what the scriptures seem to indicate contrary to what was being required....or any feelings or thoughts that we had to the contrary.

As far as the bible....does anybody get the chills remembering how it was emphasized how God magnified his WORD above his name.....

We became worshippers of the scriptures rather than God in many instances.

I think I was in the transitional phase , at least in Alaska, We still did a lot of research--I remember doing teachings at Fellowship from my own research. But it got more TWI led PI as we went along .....after all how else could we have had the JOY [ :asdf: ] of Athletes of the Spirit if it were not for the INSPIRED { :evildenk: }interpretation of the Word as revealed by LCM --Choke...Gasp ...Wheeze (I can't believe I actually managed that sentence.!)

More than one Innie...

This is when I was complaining about the Ministry and how boring it was getting.....

I think the quote is more like :" I know, well, we don't have a prophet right now." or

"Well, I pray everyday for a prophet to rise up in the ministry".

So in other words, there hasn't been one since Craiger left and they are still waiting.

Well I was trying to be nice-silly me- by not saying, "What does twi worship?"

Venerate is defined in Webster's Collegiate dictionary as "to regard with reverential respect or with admiring deference." Veneration is defined as "Respect or awe inspired by the dignity, wisdom, dedication of a person"

Leadership taught us the awe-inspiring WORD of GOD...so they became objects of worship along with the Bible. Hence, the Father in the Word concept and obey leadership even if they are wrong concept. (Though I guess your defiintion fits too oldies since many people really did and still do worship our deceased teacher vpw)

Yeppers, Bliss is right! Nevermind that they used to say the fox was a prophetess.... <_<

The fact that they acknowledge this and claim to be waiting for someone to "rise up" and take the lead just goes to show what's at the center of TWI - it's MAN - A MAN (as opposed to a woman) ;) - the Bible has momentarily come to the prominent #1 position from it's latest ranking of #2.

Before I left I heard people talking about waiting for someone to "rise up" and really lead the ministry. The fox was said to be a "business woman" and not a "teacher", so she was like a CEO while they were still in need of a "teacher" like craig was.

I just got a receipt for my rag subscription, so maybe they'll have more information in the next issue. ;)
