He was one of the key inspirations for Blazing Saddles - which is one of the reasons that movie was so funny - wihtout being politically correct....
"See No Evil and Hear No Evil"... is one of my family's favorite movies - starring Richard Prior and Gene Wilder.
I know he had "potty-mouth"... as you mentioned, Raf... but he could find a way to say some VERY funny things - about stuff that most people would NORMALLY be fighting about... and he could get BOTH SIDES LAUGHING at the same time!!
I think, that may be a gift - I know the gift of "humor" is not in the Bible... but I think his humor was mostly "good" in that - it tended towards peace -
This is terrible but I was sure he had died several years ago. I thought the newsman was misreading the name or something.
Anyway, he was a funny guy, up until he burned himself. He was never the same after that. Got a little too "safe", I think. Can't say as I blame him in that.

Saw that on the cable news tonight. Age 65, and died from a heart attack.
I agree with what they said of him ---
"He really pushed the envelope, and got away with it."

A true pioneer in comedy!
"Silverstreak" is my favorite! :D :D Hopefully, we'll see a resurgence of his movies.
Raf, I hope He doesn't wash his mouth out. I would kinda like to hear encore performances live and in person. ;)

Once,
he spoke of the "incident" he had.
He was at a show, and debated whether to tell the audience what
had really happened.
"If I tell you, you won't tell anyone else, right?"
(various shouts of 'We won't tell')
*looks over the audience*
"Y'all are a LYING bunch of M*F*ers!"
"All right,
here's what really happened.
All my close friends know that,
before I go to bed,
I like to have cookies and milk.
So, one night, I had some lowfat milk,
and I mixed it with some pasteurized,
and when I dunked the cookie in it,
it blew up in my face."
He also had many observations about
what happens to your life when you keep
taking drugs, and some oddly funny comments
about what happens when you're on fire.
He faded too soon, and died too soon.
