GeorgeStGeorge
This isn't a GS event, but any 'Spotters who wish to attend are certainly welcome. (Realistically, only those in the Houston area would be likely to make it.) The 18th annual "Thank God I'm not a Pig" roast will be held from noon to 5 PM this Saturday (10/8) at Quintana Beach Park (55 mi. S of Houston). (In case of rain, the covered pavilion at Richwood Park will be used.) The theme is "The Fantastic Boar" with music from the "Porkestra" (the Lake Jackson Traditional Jazz Band), food, and games for the kiddies (including the traditional "pigyata"). Admission is free, though donations for the Brazoria County Youth Homes will be accepted. Directions to follow. George Directions to the Pig Roast (Quintana Beach Park): From Houston or Sugar Land: get to Highway 288 (from downtown, Loop 610, Beltway 8, or Highway 6, depending on your starting point). Go south all the way through Lake Jackson and Freeport. (Highway 288 merges with Highway 332 through Lake Jackson and with Highway 36 at the south end of Freeport.) Continue on 288/36 until it dead-ends at FM 1495. Turn right; continue around until you go over a large bridge. Turn left at CR 723 and go until it dead-ends. Turn right, and you're there! The daily parking fee will be waived when you say you're coming to the pig roast. The Pig Roast is at the Bryan and Quintana Pavilions. Note: you can avoid going through LJ and Freeport by getting off 288 at Business 288 (just north of Angleton). Go south to FM 523, and turn left. Stay on 523 for quite a while. (Pass Highway 35, FM 2004, the town of Oyster Creek, and Highway 332.) After two stoplights past 332, 523 continues straight; but 1495 curves left. Stay on 1495 over a big bridge and through a little of Freeport. Continue past the junction with 288/36 and follow the remaining directions as above. In case of rain, the Pig Roast will be held at Richwood Park: From Houston or Sugar Land: get to Highway 288, and go south to FM 2004. Exit, and turn left (between the stoplights); go a couple of miles until you cross train tracks. After the tracks, turn right at the first stoplight (Oyster Creek Dr.). Go two blocks and turn left (Wisteria). Go to the stop sign and turn right (Glenforest Dr.). Gladys Polk Elementary School will be on your right, Richwood Park is on the left.
