“To attempt to accurately express Brett’s love of life and the contribution he made to family and friends, in heightening our awareness of its rich texture, is a task I lack the skills to properly convey,” his mother, Judy, tenderly explains.

Brett was born on February 6, 1973. He grew up thrilled by physical challenges and would make a game out of whatever he could. He found injecting stressful situations with playful lightheartedness an effective tension reliever.

On one of many instances, when he demonstrated this unique ability, he and his mother were at an auto body shop getting an estimate on a paint job. Next to the shop was a junkyard enclosed by an eight-foot wire fence. Inside the fence was a rather large barking Doberman. As his mother stood talking with the serviceman, her attention was grabbed by the sudden silencing of the barking background noise. Realizing that Brett was no longer by her side, she spun around in the direction of the junkyard. Incredibly, Brett had scaled the fence and was on all fours, arm outstretched, crawling closer and closer, and softly soothing this creature by telling the Doberman that he was a good boy. Judy says, “As Brett reached the Doberman, frozen in fear I watched, as he turned this snarling beast into an adoring pup.” Once back in the car she asked him in a tone of voice, which to his ear probably resembled a human bark, "What had possessed you to jump that fence?" And he said calmly, “ That dog only wanted to be petted.”

Brett’s heart was built to do what he thought helpful regardless of the personal risk. Several of Brett’s two legged friends, who are many and of diverse backgrounds, have commented that Brett was the reason their friendship circle grew and remained solid over time. If Brett liked someone, he wanted everyone to appreciate what he saw and he would get on all fours, arm outstretched until you did.

Brett had a life long love affair with the ocean, the slopes and in more recent years the golf course. Gathering every available free moment and every friend who could join him to one of these venues. He consistently delighted in an unquenchable thirst for camaraderie wrapped in nature.

Brett spent his adolescent years in New England and Long Island moving to New Jersey at the age of fourteen.

Brett had a particularly strong affection for Seton Hall Prep and the friends he made there. Several of which remain his closest.

Brett was engaged to be married, to the enormously special, Dina Carlucci on June 8, 2002.

He had worked on the floor of the New Stock Exchange for two years with CMJ before joining Euro Brokers where he had been an options broker on the Interest Rate Options desk since March 1998.

His mother lovingly and affectionately states, “The jagged edges, of the hole left in the lives of so many, with Brett’s sudden extraction from our lives, will in time be made smooth. But the gaping void that remains can never be adequately filled.”

Seton Hall Prep has dedicated the Millennium Walkway and plaque for Brett and his fellow former students killed in the September 11 attacks, there are nine names in all. A Memorial Fund has also been established for all nine students. A poster was given out to those who attended the dedication and is on sale where proceeds go to the September 11th Memorial Fund.

His parents Kevin and Judy, his loving sister, Yarah, and his adoring brother, Yuriah, survive Brett.

Dear Hills Bro,

The pain of his loss must have been unfathomable to those of you who were close to him. I can only pray that some day as his mother said:

quote:
The jagged edges, of the hole left in the lives of so many, with Brett’s sudden extraction from our lives, will in time be made smooth.
that these words will come to pass.

Thanks for sharing this with us.

Much love to you and your family.

EXCIE,

So nice to see you! love3.gif

Brett T. Bailey, 28, a friend's friend

Friendship and family defined the life of Brett T. Bailey of Brick, his parents said.

"If you could only choose one friend in life you would want it to be Brett. Friendship and family meant everything to him. He was the most loyal friend. He would walk on burning coals for his friends," said his father, Kevin Bailey.

Missing and presumed dead after the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center, Mr. Bailey was an options broker for Euro Brokers. Before that, the 28-year-old worked for CMJ on the New York Stock Exchange.

After six years of dating, Mr. Bailey was engaged to marry his fiancé Dina Carlucci on June 8, 2002.

"Ironically, I called him my survivor," said his mother, Judy Bailey. "He'd always landed on his feet. No matter what predicament he got into he would come out and everybody would still love him."

Lighthearted and easygoing, Mr. Bailey was always looking out for others, his mother said. One day last winter the family went to the movies, and Mr. Bailey noticed an elderly woman having difficulty in the snow and he leaped over a snow bank to help her.

"That's the type of kid he was. He was always taking care of everybody," his mother said. "He was a great big brother."

Co-workers told the family Mr. Bailey made his way down to the 71st floor and was helping others when the second tower collapsed.

Born in Cape Cod, Mass., Mr. Bailey spent his early years in Long Island and Maine. When he was in eighth grade, he moved to West Orange. He attended Seton Hall Preparatory School where he played football and ice hockey. He loved animals and had a passion for the ocean. He surfed and spent many summers working as a lifeguard during at the Jersey Shore.

"He liked to taste the whole menu. He was not a one-trick pony," said his father, who played golf with him every weekend during the summer.
