there's something on my computer that keeps making the internet home address page a site of popups galore and a yellow screen with a girl in a white halter top and the desktop or internet page turns white

it's got something like "pass this on" in its address name and a bunch of numbers and redirect instructions

does anyone know what i'm talking about and how i can get rid of it ?

no matter how many times i change home page, this one still comes back

thanks

Passiton is more of a pain than a virus.

The best way to tackle it is to run some anti-spyware software. I've fixed about 20 computers with it.

Go to this link

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

there is a box on the right to download this free program. Run it and quarantine everything that it finds.

Then go to internet options in internet explorer and change your home page to what you want it to be.

there is another thing going around that is similiar called something like "purity" that is supposed to protect your computer from porn... it actuallly will pop up loads of porn sites and eventually shut your computer down. The Ad Aware software that I linked above fixes that also.

Excathedra, you have AdAware already from what I understand. Just run it as Paw suggests.

This also from the tips thread that I posted a few months ago:

__________________________________________

Has your browser ever been "hijacked"? Mine has. Some websites contain malicious code that will change your home page and add "helpers" or links to your toolbar without even asking you. Some even go so far as to install programs on your system to make the damage repeat itself every time you boot up. How rude! Fight back with this little freeware program!

Click here to see this program

It runs in the background and alerts you before the damage is done and helps you to easily undo the intrusions if they happen.

Since I do not like things running in the background you could install it and use it until the problem is solved and then uninstall it.

(And yes, there is a way to reinstall Internet Explorer 5 or 6 but it is usually not necessary unless your browser is really screwed.)
