Favorite Camp Songs

My dog was walking me this morning and in the warm, humid weather it was the same thick woody smell that I remember so well from my Girlscout Camp days. Memories came flooding back and all these camp songs started running through my mind. I can't remember all the words to most of them, but I sure had a good time singing the parts of them that I do remember.

What are some of your favorite camp songs?

Here are bits of some of the ones I sang this morning:

quote:
Well, we're from Nairobi and we have a good team.

We fight the Watoosies, they're seven feet tall

I'd love to find the rest of the words to that one. I learned it at a Methodist Church Camp when I was a counselor with my best girlfriend. That's the only time I've ever heard the song. I was Baptist, but they let me come anyway. icon_smile.gif:)-->

quote:
said a boom-a-chik-a-boom! (echo)

I said a boom-a-chik-a-rock!

I said a boom-a-chik-a-boom-

a-chik-a-rock-a-chick-a-boom!

Oh yeah? All right. (repeat)

(Just a little bit louder...)

quote:
She sat on a hillside and strummed her guitar,

strummed her guitar, strummed her guitar.

She sat on a hillside and strummed her guitar,

strummed her gui-ta-a-a-ar.

quote:
Found a peanut, found a peanut,

Found a peanut just now. [Repeat]

quote:
Chorus:

Rise and shine,

and give God the glory, glory

Rise and shine,

And give God the glory, glory,

Rise and shine and, (clap),

Give God the glory, glory,

Children of the Lord.

FOUND IT!!!! icon_biggrin.gif:D--> icon_biggrin.gif:D--> icon_biggrin.gif:D-->

quote:
Men from Nairobi

Thanks to Kevin Dodge and Jennifer Litman Goldman for this one

We're the men from Nairobi

And our team's a good one

We play the Watusi they're seven feet tall.

The cannibals may eat us

But they'll never beat us

'Cause we're from Nairobi

The best of them all.

(Chorus)

Singing

Umgawa, umgawa, umgawa, umgawa, umgawa, umgawa, umgawawa.

They sent fifty men

Down from Kilamanjaro

But they didn't have what it takes.

We took all the losers

Out into the jungle

And left them tied up for the snakes

What a bite!

(Chorus)

The men from 'round Kenya

Know our team's a good one

We played them 'bout this time last year.

Their number one hero

Was disqualified when he

Fell on a Nairobi spear

What a shaft!

(Chorus)

Father Abraham

had seven sons,

had seven sons, had Father Abraham

and they never laughed,

and they never cried,

all they did was go like this

With the right arm

(swing right arm back and forth after you say "with the right arm" and continue the action throughout the rest of the song)

Father Abraham

had seven sons,

had seven sons, had Father Abraham

and they never laughed,

and they never cried,

all they did was go like this

With the right arm and the left arm

(add the left arm swinging back and forth throughout the rest of the song)

Repeat song...

With the right arm and the left arm and the right leg

(add the right leg marching throughout the rest of the song)

Repeat song...

With the right arm and the left arm and the right leg and the left leg

(add the left leg marching throughout the rest of the song)

Repeat song...

With the right arm and the left arm and the right leg and the left leg.

Now a wiggle

(swing hips a bit while marching throughout the rest of the song)

Repeat song...

With the right arm and the left arm and the right leg and the left leg.

Now a wiggle and a bow.

(bow up and down while marching throughout the rest of the song)

Repeat song...

With the right arm and the left arm and the right leg and the left leg.

Now a wiggle and a bow. Sit Down!

(everyone sits down and the song is over)

Camp Lutherlyn circa 1982

Found A Peanut (As I remember it and have sung it lo these many years to any child who will listen!)

Found a peanut,

Found a peanut,

Found a peanut

Just now.

Just now I found a peanut,

Found a peanut just now.

Cracked it open,

Cracked it open,

Cracked it open

Just now.

Just now I cracked it open,

Cracked it open just now.

Had a worm

(etc)

Ate it anyway

(etc)

Got sick

(etc)

Called the Dr.

(etc)

Died anyway

(etc)

Went to Heaven

(etc)

Kicked an angel

(etc)

They kicked me out

(etc)

Went the other way

(etc)

Kicked a devil

(etc)

They kicked me out

(etc)

Found a peanut...

OH NO!!!!!

I like the one they used in Star Trek - The Final Frontier which is done as a round.

Row row row the boat

Gently down the stream

Merrily merrily merrily merrily

Life is but a dream

Another is a nonsense song sung by cub scouts over here:

Gin gan gooly gooly gooly watch watch gin gan goo gin gan goo!

I LOVE the songs in the round!! icon_biggrin.gif:D--> icon_biggrin.gif:D-->

Kum-bi-yah is beautiful, Johnny, especially in rounds around a campfire with people you really enjoy spending time with.

Make new friends but keep the old

One is silver and the other gold

Fish & Chips & Vinegar

One Bottle Top

Two Bottle Top

Don't put your trash in my back yard

My back yard

Don't put your trash in my back yard

My back yard's full

As a round - - this has a wonderful melody so when it's sung, it sounds like great music.

Chairs to mend, old chairs to mend

Mackeral fresh mackeral

Any old rags, any old rags

Mares eat oats ane does eat oats

And little lambs eat ivy

A kid'l eat ivy too (a little lamb will)

I love you.
