Whoever said VP was against Jews is wrong. I knew a few converts. Of course they may have been in his inner circle, not really in the way per se. One was a psychiatrist, two were doctors, and one was even a lawyer...all from my area. The psychiatrist, I saw with VP at the ROA 1977, walking with him during the day when VP was in his shorts.
I don't know about being "against Jews" per se, but the fact that he had Jewish friends and converts says almost nothing. After all, one of the biggest defenses against racism is, "But some of my best friends are..."
I think promoting and misquoting the Thirteenth Tribe and the Myth of th Six Million says a lot more than walking around in your shorts with a shrink.
VeePee was caught up in the idea of conspiracy...I only recently threw away my "cuurent Psychological Hoax" this was the tape that vpw said Jim Jones was a CIA experiment.
I was a Repub before I got into twi and remain so today inspite of my differences with the parties policies and politics. VP certainly encouraged the conseritive pov which was coincidentally Repub in nature, I think it had something to do with the German work ethic and aversion to socialism more than anything else, I think Weirwille found himself in a position of influence (over us) and tried to manipulate it into political power. In that regard he was a leader of sorts seeing how so many Christian Rightwing groups have formed special interest groups since.
The political power angle is a good one, herbiejuan. A block of voters is real political currency. TWI followers were spread across the country, but the "religious right" has demonstrated that Christians are willing to mobilize, much to the horror of liberals everywhere.
This would open a few doors for old Vic. He wouldn't have been above exploiting his "political capital," meaning us.
Satori do you recall W's push for fellowships within walking distance for twig members during that time frame? Or maybe the outreach for Wake Up America and the desperate attempt to follow up on it with God country music and America?
I don't know about being "against Jews" per se, but the fact that he had Jewish friends and converts says almost nothing. After all, one of the biggest defenses against racism is, "But some of my best friends are..."

Raf, you're probably right. Somehow VP gave me the impression(for example) that we all crucified Jesus to the cross(not just the jews or roman). But they still tried to reform some. I have no doubt that TWI as a whole was nothing less than a racist organization at the time. I just thought their prejudices were towards another race, as was commented by a friend at ROA 1977!
How were we supposed to be the first in arts and sciences or anything when we were expected to be at meetings and running classes and out witnessing all the time.
I agree that Wierwille was anti semetic...I was in the Jewish shrink's twig at Rome city...knew him well (a really good guy)...to Wierwille, he was a token Jew. Jews were welcome in twi as long as they "converted" to waybrain.
Sure, Veepee embraced the republican party because it fit into his own self image of being a "man's man". He loved Ronald Reagan's tough stance with the commies...he bad mouthed Jimmy Carter something terrible...in fact, he used to accuse Carter of being too soft with the Jews...
The Hayes Gahagan era ushered in a new dimension to twi...I think it was roa 76 or 77...political jabber was on everyone's lips...talk of getting a pfal grad into the White house was the goal...Tom J got involved with the political agenda as well...twiers were encouraged to get involved with local politics and make a "difference". When I first took the advanced class in 1978, it was extremely political...all the illuminati stuff, etc...when I went into residence in 79, I would say that twi had gone into the "Jim Jones" category with all the MAL pack stuff...and in the meantime, twiers were being encouraged to attend John Birch Society meetings, develope survival skills and get ready for the poop to hit the fan.
...and yes, the "good versus best" doctrine of twi, played along with being against democrat entitlement programs...I mean, why help a needy person when you can send a check to twi instead.
herbiejuan, I also remember them saying that at one time it was veepee's goal for everyone in America to be able to walk to a twig near their home. Funny how it was a much more realistic goal when veepee was alive than after craiggers said that the word was over the world. -->
I also remember hearing about how we should be leaders in the arts because art was to inspire thoughts of God and his word. I think I heard that in a stick, though, not after getting involved with the real TWI.
All political views should be measured against the Word not people's opinions. I believe we were taught that. It's pretty clear about knowing by the fruit one produces.
With the world you will never get someone elected that is 100% on the mark, but we were taught to make our decisions based on the best canadate who's values lined up the most with the Word.
You mean the standard of the Word? That is the only standard I go by. I am sure God inspires His kids to make the correct decisions when they go to the polls based on their spiritual knowledge & natural knowledge.
I believe George Bush got in because he is a Godly man and does his best according to his ability and knowledge. He and his decisions are not perfect but I believe he does his best & since we pray for those in authority, I also believe God can work best thru him and not the other canidate. I don't know too many who would want his job, except maybe Hillary; but we won't go there.
well, this isn't the friendly politics board, so I'm sorry I got started. Somehow this topic wound up here.
I do have to say in response tho, that it is my belief that Bush knowingly lied to get us into Iraq, which is not the standard of the Word, no matter how much he professes to be Godly.
I normally refrain from posting about political stuff but- heh heh.
While I was in TWI, lessee- I voted for Reagan, I voted for George Sr. I voted for George Jr once.
You could have described me as a dyed in the wool conservative and been pretty close to reality.
So much of my political opinion was definitely religion, or more specifically TWI driven.
After leaving, I started to THINK.
Iraq besides, Bush and administration is strong-arming anybody they can to implement a fifty year old technology, touting it as the answer to the broadband "dilemma"- it is called BPL, or broadband over power lines. His own scientists and technicians warned of its disasterous interference with radio services, almost ALL radio services. This includes emergency, hobby, aircraft, police fire and rescue, almost all radio services.
Despite the evidence, he chose to strong-arm his own scientists into modifying their statements, and turned the FCC into a puppet to rubber stamp the deal for the power companies.
To me, this says a heck of a lot more about his character than any self-confessed religious belief. He's in bed with somebody, and not the American people, in my opinion..
I did not vote for him.
God help me, I think I'm turning into a Liberal, heh heh.
Well....I plead guilty for starting this thread on this particular forum.
My thinking was simply to see what people thought of twi's influence over people's political views...
I will refrain from posting what I normally post on the "politics and tack" forum...but I would invite any and all to venture into THAT forum for a closer examination of the various opinions of the current administration...
I will say this however...If George W. Bush is a "godly man", then there is no God...there is only a devil.

I think it was part of his grand scheme of weirwille over the world aka WOW.
He did say from time to time that we should be first in the arts and sciences, knowing what we did from God's Mogified Word...

satori...the dictionary defines snide as "slyly derogatory or sarcastic". There was nothing sly about my derogatory and sarcastic remarks. ;)-->
...but it WAS an accurate description of the twi polical views of that era.
...So, with all due respect to my "moral better",...(*)

Politicians wear religion on their sleeve when they think it will get them votes.
It's no guarantee of their standards at all.
And we all know that we thought that VPW's values were 100% with the Word don't we!
