I am networked! So, I guess I need to keep that puppy.
I did some reading last nite...boy did I read at the Microsoft Info center.....
PerfNet has something to do with monitoring how longs get started (?) Windoze is Weird!
One of my error messages led to info that Microsoft acknowledges there is a problem....one of them has to do with a problem in SP1 and no info about one of the others.
I turned one system on manually....and decided to deactivate McAfee because it keeps knocking on the door to go out and verify that it is updated! I have 2 virus programs, and 2 security programs and a router....I decided to turn Mc"Afee off for the tie being.
Steve - they share nothing! However if I do what you suggest, won't I bump the second computer off the internet? The only reason for the networking was to provide internet service to that second computer.

If I were to throw out a wild guess, you've been lemoned.
That is a wild guess.
I do know that DCOMM shouldn't really be an issue unless you're on
a network of some kind.
The "D" in DCOMM stands for "Distributed". DCOMM is a traffic cop
for networks that borrows the functionality of certain programs and
hardware from one part of the network, and uses it for another part.
The example once given here at the GSC involved using sending a
mass-emailing from the server on the side that's designed for handling
it, and not the server you're working from right now.
I've never heard of PerfNet (no surprise there), but the "net" part
may also mean it's a program for working with a "network" as well.
Me, I keep DCOMM shut off completely on my pc, since it's NOT on
a network.

We'lll see if this helps.

Steve!
By "networked", do you mean that you have more than one computer running in your home?
If you only have one, then you are NOT networked.

Yes, Steve! There are 2 computers. This computer is directly connected to the router, and the other one has a wireless connection.

Steve!
So okay, they are both connected to the router.
Do they share a printer? files? programs?
If not, they don't necessarily need to be networked - try turning off the DCOMM thing, and see if it affects performance.
If you see adverse effects due to turning it off, big deal, turn it back on.

Krys,
You say that you have TWO Virus programs. Which TWO? They do not cohabitate very well.

Steve!
You'd still be "networked".
If you turn that service off, and you can't get to the internet from the second computer, just turn the service back on.

IMHO BSOD's are usually caused by some sort of hardware conflict.
Did you add any new hardware recently to this machine?
What kind of machine is this? A Dell what?
What kind of graphics card? Installing the wrong drivers could cause probs too.
You could always just reinstall windows over the top of itself.
You won't lose data and will not have to reinstall all programs. It will refresh the Windows OS and hopefully fix your prob in the process.
But you will have to download ALL the windows updates including SP2.
