Good question,Oenophile....Athough,I wonder how many Cuban-born Major leaguers would choose to play for Cuba instead of the Major League team they play for...
I think the difficulty in playing a 'World Cup' type of tournament in baseball is the long b-ball schedule is so demanding for Major Leaguers,and especially pitchers...Face it,their allegience is going to be where the money is,just like the foreign-born players who choose to play in the U.S. Majors...It works in Little League because there's no money involved-only pride and sportsmanship...

You are correct.
The NBA, NFL, NHL and MLB are basically North America (the U.S. and Canada).
North American or U.S. Champions, I could understand that. World Chanpions... I don't think American teams can claim that title.
