Oh,one thing I thought of,as long as we're bashing football here,is that football is the only sport that rewards and encourages the cheapshot...In hockey, they regulate checking....In basketball, they call flagrant fouls...Only in football can a scrawny,dred-locked defensive back wait in the wings 'til a wide receiver is in full leap, eyes and hands fixed on the ball, and deliver a full-speed running blow to the receiver's back, and get high-fived and make the pro-bowl if he does it often enough...
Great list starman! I love books by Thomas Boswell... especially "Why Time Begins on Opening Day"... you guys ought to read it if you haven't already... you can probably find it used somewhere... he has others as well... same great style, great stories... your youth will come flooding back to you!
another reason: the names of the positions don't change in baseball.
Baseball is the best because a grandpa can explain it to his granddaughter with no inappropriate language at all...and let her watch/listen to games without first checking for R or X ratings.
My dad played baseball in college and loved it. Going to a baseball event was fun, from when we were kids to when he was 80+, with his portable tv and thermos of hot tea, the conversation was always pleasant.
And now my brothers and sister are planning a baseball reunion together.

I'll get that for a wintertime read - thanks for the tip
I dont think I'll ever see a football team that has players named 'Trot' or 'Pokey'
Nixon and Reese came off the DL two days ago for the stretch run ---which is another thing that football doesnt have.
