I did get to experience it one time... sort of... I was in LA on business and the LAD were in the series, I decided to go to a local bar to watch the game to "feel the atmosphere"... it was the game where Gibson hit that home run and limped around the bases...

it was electric... it was something I want to feel here...

(picked a pretty good game to see at the bar with the locals didn't I?)

probably the only thing better would have been to be at the game live... but then again, well, that WAS 20 years ago... did they have big screen TVs in that bar?

Sabbathiaa is getting rocked against Philly...Five runs in three innings...Two straight starts on three days rest---last Sunday being a complete game...Milwaukee is really getting some mileage out of their rent-a -pitcher..

well... he got them into the playoffs so I'm thinking they've already got their moneys worth... if he takes them farther it was money (and future players) well spent... at least for now...

btw, now Hicks and Ryan have come out against going after CC and Ben... oh well... we're on about the fifth "five year plan" in the last six years...

suddenly the Dodgers are playing like the '27 Yankees, '76 Reds, and every other great team rolled into one.

I assure you, this is a new phenomenon.

The Cubs were especially sloppy in the field last night.

I'm torn right now. I can get tickets for Sunday-unless the Dodgers wrap it up Saturday. Am I supposed to hope for a Cub win ?

I have the same opportunity for the LCS, so I'll probably just look to move to the next level.

Holy Cow ! I MIGHT have a World Series game in my future ! That's something I never thought I'd see.

See ? A team wins a couple of games , and expectations start rising. I'd best go back to one game at a time.

Ive been here a few times in the last few years---one pitch at a time is all we can do...one pitch....and make every single one count

The Cubs have to wake up and wake up soon---that was way way too sloppy for a playoff game--and these 5 game series dont make any room for even a single mistake. Its not over for the Cubs but they'll have to tighten the ship and reach back and start playing like their lives depended on it.....

....Im detecting a little excitement out of Hiway-- :biglaugh:--- I told you Manny was fun....

We've got DiceK twirling tonight,

Don't get your hopes up too much...You're witnessing a baseball phenomenon known as the Chicago Cubs, who, come playoff crunch time, can make the '84 Padres, the '89 Giants, the '98 Braves, the 03 Marlins and the '07 D-Backs all look like the 1927 Yankees or the Big Red Machine...Think about it, if the last two games with the Dodgers had been minor league playoff games, and you were a scout, which of the Cub players would you have invited up to the majors to play with the big boys?...Ok, besides Mark DeRosa...

I felt bad for the announcers of yesterday's game---Dick Stockton, Tony Gwynn and that other guy...It was like they were there to provide commentary for a political debate---and one of the candidates just stood there clearing their throat when it was their turn to answer...It was a national embarrassment...The Viagra commercials showed more pop than the Cubs (if you like seeing 60 year old guys dancing and closing bedroom doors)...My brother and I were talking during the ninth inning yesterday, when a couple calls went against the Cubs, with of course, no argument at that point...You kind of felt at that point the umps, like everyone else, just wanted to end the game as quickly as possible and put the Cubs players, fans, and the tv audience mercifully out of their misery...

I do have to offer up accolades to Brett Myers of the Phillies...He practically single-handedly beat CC Sabbathia yesterday...Something you ALer's don't get to see very often is pitchers looking eachother in the eye and facing off against eachother from the batter's box...Myers looked Sabbathia in the eye from home plate and somehow communicated to him "I'm gonna beat you today"...Myers, who had only four hits all season, managed to coax a walk from Sabbathia after fouling off a half-dozen or so pitches---and later scored on a grand slammer, as well as pitching a great game---the kind of playoff baseball I don't mind watching...

Sigh....

buy the tix hiway... all of 'em... if they don't make it to Sunday they'll give you "credit" to apply towards the next round... right?

sorry simon... maybe the cubbies just had "one of those games" a couple of times in a row... it happens

Longoria lookin' like Josh Hamilton...

Sorry starman, but if DiceK is pitching tonight against the Halos you can go ahead and... well, you know what the score is going to be... just make sure that Beckett is right for his turn... you can get to Santana, heck... we knocked him out early in his last start... but DiceK better not jack around like he has been all year or he's done.

DiceK is the hardest pitcher to figure out, he can be lights out once in a while, more often than not he is the 6-8 walks guy who goes 6 --Somehow he does win by nibblin however.

18-3 works for me.

I havent been much all season, but Im getting just a touch of the pregame nerves right now...a few minutes til gametime...another long night in chilly New England

I dont know what to say---other than it will be good to be back home again--so I dont fall asleep in the 7th anymore from these West Coast games..and can see a whole game....Angel fans if they were wringing their hands the other night must be extremely nervous now after watching Frankie shutemdown Rodriguez cough it up in the 9th.

With Beckett and Lester coming up, Im liking our chances

Mstar is understandably happy today.

I'm wondering what's up with all these lopsided series lately. Right now, every one could go 3 and out. The world series has turned into a 4 and out contest. I don't think there's an answer to this, but it makes for some real yawners, unless you're rooting for a team.

Of course, that will probably all change, as the Cubs win the next 2 here.

Well yea I am Happy--The Red Sox went into this series being 1-8 against the Angels this year. So although I didnt have my pre2004 worries all over me, I didnt have my hopes real high either

Playoff baseball is a breed apart --the intensity level is higher--almost a different game than the regular season and to have a comeback against Mr 62 Million saves Rodriguez shows yet something else about this team.

Ive been complaining about them all year, that they havent had the intensity or cohesiveness that I know that they could play with, that they were too inconsistant, that they lacked the fire, that they hadnt had that stretch where you really fell in love with them....that's all changing now...I love it when teams put their best game on the table and are mentally indestructible---and when they turn the level of play up a notch...

Even if they do turn out to be 3 or 4 game series the level of play itself is exciting to watch---of course being on the winning side certainly helps :)

It shows you what can be done, when it needs to be done...

Hey Josh----you want the ball tomorrow?

Well yea--Im sure the Angels fans are as frustrated as I was for several years....I would guess they pretty much hate the Red Sox after losing 11 playoff games in a row to them, thats only natural..

For the people that only tune in during October or who dont hold an emotional stake in the results I still think that it can be enjoyable to watch a team click on all cylinders.... i would have liked those Yankee teams alot more if i hadnt been on the losing end so many times, but in a way that was the Genesis of the Red Sox teams now-who learned what they had to do through that process-so I cant complain, although i did at the time.

.....

and for Simon---I just checked the Cub results for the year---they have won at least 3 games in a row--16 times this year already.....

don't be a countin yer chikenz before they're hatched starman! Papelbon can be gotten to as well...

the angels of LAA are capable of turning right around and blowing it open... of course, the BoSox are also capable of keeping them down... now you'll get to turn your late night viewing into watching Manny for a couple of days ...maybe.

Starman! you need to get on the horn to Theo and tell him to put a big pile of money in front of Texeira... he'd be a perfect pairing with Youkilis... he didn't play first base until he got to the bigs, came up as a third baseman... don't know how many more years Lowell has on his contract but he'd be a good addition for y'all and the lure of the ring might just keep him from going to Baltimore...

One thing I'm thinking (about the one sided games) is that some of these teams got to throw their big guys out there while the others didn't or if they did they did it on short rest... makes a big difference in the mindset of all the players...

it sure looks like it's gonna come down to the Rays and BoSox and Phillies and LAD though...

Im not counting anything Tom--I know better than that-or at least I hope that I do---I did say I liked our position--thats all--up 2-0 with Beckett and Lester coming up is a good position... and thats as far as Im going to go...the playoffs are like some zen process to stay right in the moment--it always seems the second that you get one step ahead of yourself is the moment that things fall apart...We're in a good position--we'll see what happens tomorrow when tommorrow comes.. :)

I dont know about Texiera--. I think the Angels should let KRod go and use the money to sign Tex longterm... I like him but really wouldnt want to lose the draft picks. Lowell has two more years (injured most of this year but still played well) and there is a highly touted firstbaseman, Lars Anderson, coming up through the system who will probably step in in a year or two at first.

Id love Tex's production and glove, but the way the draft and player development has been working lately with youngsters coming up through the system ( Papelbon, Lester, Pedroia, Ellsbury, Lowrie, Masterson etc...) thats just as exciting to watch if not more so than a big free agent....not to mention less expensive...

just my opinion

Thats leaves KRod free to go to the stRangers, grab yourselves another frontline starter, develop those young arms, stay in games and we could see you next October!

I'm going to vote for whichever Presidential candidate that promises to move the Chicago Cubs to St. Louis and call them the Browns....

Hey Simon... take a couple of deep breaths. You'll be okay by tomorrow...

OTOH, didn't Sweet Lou have a similar problem in Seattle?
