... but to clarify THAT point, IF Clark is no longer one of the players, his presence/influence in the locker room becomes meaningless...
Well I guess that is true ... his presence handling game situations isn't the same if he is in street clothes ... but it would still help some. And if he isn't really producing ... well, what do I know ... I've never even been in "the room".
re: Tony Clark (the old man of the Dbacks)... I'd heard he was extremely valuable in "the room"... worth more for that (his presence in the room)[/]than his under-powering numbers at 1B.
...maybe someone to replace Tex?
All I meant was that I'd heard that he was a really good guy, a valuable asset, in the room... and that he doesn't necessarily have the power numbers that one might look for out of a first baseman... I don't know how to explain it differently... I was saying something good about him, not knocking him or looking for a fight...

I don't know who told you he wasn't producing this year, but I've posted within the last few days, probably a couple of times that he HAS been producing... and I've probably seen him more this year than anyone else here at GSC... 'cause Simon doesn't see as many games as I do...

I don't know who you'd heard that from but whoever it is is full of s-h-i-t.
His play has been key... he platoons with Conor Jackson, and is a switch-hitting pinch-hitter. He's outstanding defensively, and has provided MANY key hits at very important times.
see post 2443 posted YESTERDAY.
And Tom, I figured you weren't "bad mouthing" Clark. However, that information is just wrong.
btw, the reason I popped on here just now was to joyfully announce (no, not that the Dbacks are leading the Cubs at Wrigley, which they ARE doing at the moment) that I got a call from DISH NETWORK letting me know that they NOW have TBS in HD!
I was just chit chattin .. I don't even know the guy ...
I'm lookin at a phillips 47" 1080p for $1700, WalMart has it ..
cool about DISH HD for tbs, they obviously respect the rocky phone calls ...
DISH will give me the basic DISH HD equipment if I commit to 18 months HD upgrade with them, which costs $20 more per month
I will add that I played first base, not for my power, but because I was misunderstood ... I was recruited to pitch, but I looked too serious so coach thought I didn't like it .. so he put me on first ... moron ...
I had a little real coaching from a good pitcher ... I coulda been a contender ... I coulda been somebody ...
(instead of going in the way corpse)
and that is the only reason why you don't see my name in the record books ...

I was only ONE of many who contacted DISH about the problem. I know better than to take credit for this one.... I'd love to think I made a difference, but in this case, if I had been an isolated case, it wouldn't have had any impact.
Philips, I think is a good brand... I'd recommend checking Consumer Reports before buying an HDTV...
I had been scanning the TVs at both Walmart and Target the last few weeks and noticed that many of the sets smaller than the one you're looking at had max resolution of only 720p... which is NOT HD... in 2005, when I was shopping for mine, those were called ED (not the disorder for which cialis is sometimes prescribed) , but enhanced definition... better than SD (standard), not as good as HD.
When I pointed this out to the kid at Target, he acknowledged my point and said they try to carry "affordable" TVs. Which, to me, seems like intentional misleading.
But a 47" with 1080p should give you really good performance... you didn't say if it was LCD, plasma or DLP. If I remember correctly, Tom Strange might have a DLP... I don't know anyone with a plasma set. But I like my LCD.
I would STRONGLY recommend getting the extended warranty regardless of where you buy and which technology.
The "bulb" for an LCD set can cost a couple hundred bucks and they can be fragile...
AND... my condolences to Cubbies fans, now grieving another season lost.
I don't expect either the Rockies or the Diamondbacks to sweep this next series. HOWEVER- having won 18 of their last 17, the Rockies are on a roll. They can taste destiny or at least they know what snake meat tastes like.

And THIS Rock(y) likes the snakes in 5...
However, it IS pretty difficult to count the Rockies out... the HOTTEST team in MLB over the last three weeks.
A quick look at the Rockies vs the Snakes season matchups showed a slight edge to the Rockies.
I think I counted 10 wins and 8 losses These two teams know each other well, as they play many preseason warmups against each other.
Of course this count might be a little skewed as the last Rockie loss was to the 'backs, in the first game of the last regular season series. That game clinched the division title for AZ, and so they had little to play for in the remaining two losses to CO. Still, the Rockies have been winning "playoff games since mid September with their very young pitching staff, and the REAL league MVP Matt Holliday!
This low budget ($54mil payroll) team is suddenly getting some of the head turns it deserves. That is good for the region. It also should get Clint Hurdle some points towards Manager of the Year.

Excellent insight Hap.
In fact, in those last two regular season games, Melvin put more of the most recently called up rookies in the starting lineups. So, even though the kids played their hearts out (even then), it wasn't necessarily the "A" team at every position or spot in the batting order.
Indeed, Clint Hurdle deserves some consideration for M.o.t.y., it REALLY has to be Bob Melvin's already.
No question Matt Holiday is league MVP, and Tulowitzki deserves consideration for rookie of the year.
But Melvin should get the manager recognition for leading this rag tag group of KIDS that got NO respect from baseball analysts even into last night's game.
Anyway, if Melvin doesn't get the accollade, I doubt he'll be overly concerned if the Dbacks win the NLCS and the WS.
btw, the Dbacks' payroll also was in the same range this year.
Prediction: The Tribe-Yankee series will go to game 5. The Yankees will hit Byrd as much or more than they hit Westbrook. Wang is the big question mark. If the Indians can hit him as they did in game 1, it could still be interesting. I think he will be better, but even if he isn't, everyone knows dang well Torre will be rid of him a whole lot sooner.
Byrd can certainly be hit. His strength is control and finesse with his Bob Feller style (and taught) delivery. If he gives up a lot of baserunners, as C.C. did, he doesnt have the power C.C. has to put the next batters away.

Well, they did get to Wang early and of course I was right about Joe having a fast hook. But that may not mean much. Byrd gave up two hits in the first inning. Then to start the second he gave up a walk. That is more trouble than the two hits I'll guarantee. For Byrd anyway.
The lead is starting to get bigger than Byrd can blow, even against the Yankees. If he gets into more than normal trouble, Rafael and Rafael will be there. I can just see the game getting close and Borowski trying to save it, after what happened int he spring.
I'm not in a rush to get the HD .. will enjoy the big bright picture for a bit .. then get WOWed again witht he HD ... but the free equipment deal for subscribers ends in /january ... so may go ahead now. I'll need the new dish too, not sure if that is included for free.

Gettin' late for the yankees ... 12 outs left ...
If the receiver is included, then the new dish will (almost certainly) be included. The dish is pretty much the least expensive component... but there's a part hooked up to the dish that is like a receiver also... but it probably all is included, whether you'll be going with Directv or Dish Network.
Yankers are done for the year.
I can't imagine you'd want to miss the NLCS and ALCS in HD!
I wasn't around GS. I was glued to my non-HD, 20+-year-old, perfectly viewable television*, watching intently and yelling at Wedge to get Perez the he|| off the mound. (He made me more nervous than I was at any time during the game.)
I figured going into this game that the Indians would either (a) wrap up the series in game 4 or (b) lose it all. I'm glad it was (a)!!!
I did hear Regis Philbin predict this morning that the World Series will be the Rockies vs. the Indians. We have to get past the Red Sox first, but I'm hoping for the best!!
*I don't get all this new technology. Not worth all the cashola, IMO, but to each his own, I guess. If I can see what's going on, I'm happy. I remember friends getting high-end stereo systems years ago. I'd listen and could tell it was a "richer" sound, but so what? That's sorta how I feel about HD. But then, I still have a VCR hooked up to my main TV and only bought a cheap DVD player for my bedroom TV, so I'm obviously not too concerned with staying up on the latest gizmoes. :P

Make sure you don't watch ANY of the ALCS in HD... or you'll be hooked before you know it (unless, of course, the BoSox win that series).
Rocky, I neither respect nor disrespect the D'Backs. I've never watched one of their games, so I have no basis for an opinion. (But I do know I'm not fond of rattlesnakes!!)
As for Regis, I suppose he knows as much as anyone who tries to predict the outcome in the postseason. I don't think he has to be a baseball expert to voice an opinion, and I happened to like his opinion.

At least for the National league, it seems odd that both series went 3-0, when the end of the season was so close for all the teams.
OK, the cubs were weak, but it is good to see the lower class doing so well (speaking of salary)
Boston is the exception ... so they need to lose ... but I guess the yankers still have a chance ...
slim to none ... and slim is overpaid ...
