We obviously need more lines (though I don't think I'll get it, anyway)! Try a couple more. If no one gets it then, you may have to try another song. :(-->
Ok maybe that was a little obscure, at least for this crowd. ;)-->
The title is "Rollercoaster" go figure, by The Red House Painters. A great band that is not all that new I think this song was from 93' maybe.
This next one won't be quite as obscure but if you can 't figure it out you will probably be able to google it. I tried to do that for The Red House Painters just to make sure the lyrics were right, but I found that they don't have a site of their own anymore or a page of lyrics. The singer, Mark Kozelek, has formed a new group called Sun Kil Moon.
The rules of the game are that if you "google" the answer, you have to disqualify yourself (as Raf and WordWolf did for your last song).
I seem to remember a song called "Black Slacks" from the '90's, but a.) I have no idea who performed it, and b.) I don't know if that's the song you're clueing.
Right you are, Pirate! I really liked the song (Whittaker's version) when it came out during my high school days. I'm REALLY impressed that you got it from the SECOND verse. (I was planning to give the opening lines next, and finally the "I have loved you dearly, more dearly than the spoken word can tell" if it hadn't been guessed by then.)
When that song was really big, 75-76, I guess, I was working in a place where we had the radio on all the day. They used to play that about once every hour.

It was played on album oriented stations so that counts. I remember it I just can't think of the song right now

Don't know the title but then I never did like the stones to much. unless it was covered by Flying Burrito brothers also which would make it dead flowers but I think that's another song.

Once beneath the stars, the universe was ours. Love was all we knew, and all I knew was you. I wonder where you are, I wonder if you think about me Once upon a time, IN YOUR WILDEST DREAMS. It mig

I looked it up. This one's pretty obscure, I think.

I looked it up too.
I haven't heard of the song OR the artist.

Since Belle, Sharon, et al. have remained silent, I think it's safe to say WE GIVE UP!!
Lindy, how about another song?

It's "I'm too obscure" by "The ubiquitously hidden meanings."

Are you kidding??
Lindy, I'll admit that more recent songs will probably get by me, but if Raf ISN'T kidding, maybe you ought to try something a BIT more mainstream!

I was kidding.
The actual song is far more obscure.

OK I changed my mind
here's another one of my favorites:
"When I go places
I just don't care
You'd know why if you'd see what I wear
Black slacks pegged fourteen
Black slacks, really are keen
Black slacks make a cool daddy-o
When I put them on I'm a-rarin' to go"
:D--> cool daddy-O

Well, since this thread's been held up in one
form or another since July 2 and it's now
July 14, I'm disregarding the recent posts and
posting a new song.
==============
"Now the doctor came in, stinking of gin,
And proceeded to lie on the table"

I would agree that it's time to move on.
"Rocky Raccoon" by the Beatles?

Lindy retains the right to jump right back in whenever he wants.
His preceding song was "Black Slacks" by Joe Bennett and the Sparkletones.
I'm not making that up.
In the future, please do not include the title of the song in the clue.
And if you include the title in the clue, and STILL no one gets it, it's a sure bet you've picked a real obscure number.

You are correct, sir!
According to one source, the line I quoted, about the Doctor, was
inspired by an incident involving a drunk doctor that saw one Beatle
after he took an injury.

I wasn't too sure. I could just hear that melody when I read the lyrics.
Try this one:
I’ve heard there’s a wicked war a-blazing
And the taste of war I know so very well.

Well, there's one I've actually heard of.
The Last Farewell
Elvis recorded it, but I think it was Roger Whitaker that did it first.
