I think it's "Knock on Wood"... and you must be talkin' about the Duck... but I can't remember who did it first as all that fills my head right now is the freakin' Blues Brothers!... and when I try to think back further all I can see is them going to the Big Nun!
Eddie Floyd cowrote it with Steve Cropper(Booker T.& The MG's ) and had a hit with it in 1966.
After that, many, many others covered it, including one who is dicussed quite a bit on the "Guitar" thread, Eric Clapton. Any one of them would have been an appropriate answer. My personal favorite was the cover by Wilson Picket.
You have to be trusted by the people that you lie to,
So that when they turn their backs on you,
You'll get the chance to put the knife in.
Thats from Pink Floyd's 'Animals" Its from either "Dogs" (which Is my first guess) or "Pigs (3 different kinds) which it could....No its from "Dogs" I'm Sure... yup Dogs

It was played on album oriented stations so that counts. I remember it I just can't think of the song right now

Don't know the title but then I never did like the stones to much. unless it was covered by Flying Burrito brothers also which would make it dead flowers but I think that's another song.

I think the Pawnbroker may be in the back room taking inventory so I'm going to take the liberty of tossing one in the mix.

Her is one that I like to just sit and listen to in dark room...
Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you To a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the...................

Odd if TV Land's airing this show-it's very recent.
(Not impossible, just odd.)
The song, though, has got to be
"Where My Heart Will Take Me."
(Personally, I would have called it "Strength of the Heart", but nobody asked me.)
As for artists, Rod Stewart did this one for the movie "Patch Adams."

I can see by your coat, my friend
You're from the other side
There's just one thing I've got to know
Can you tell me please, who won
Say, can I have some of your purple berries
Yes, I've been eating them for six or seven weeks now
Haven't got sick once
Prob'ly keep us both alive

Holding you closely, undisturbed, before the fire.
The pressure in my chest when you breathed in my ear.
We both knew this would happen when you first appeared.
