From his response, I assume Wasway knew that the song was "Mother-in-law." Original artist Ernie K. Doe, but I first heard it on my "Best of Herman's Hermits" LP.
OK, I KNOW the title is correct. So is it not the eagles, but a Glenn Frye(Ok might not be spelled right but you know who I mean!) solo cut? If so, that would explain why I didn't much care for it...never did think he was any good on his own.

Don't know the title but then I never did like the stones to much. unless it was covered by Flying Burrito brothers also which would make it dead flowers but I think that's another song.

Once beneath the stars, the universe was ours. Love was all we knew, and all I knew was you. I wonder where you are, I wonder if you think about me Once upon a time, IN YOUR WILDEST DREAMS. It mig

All I needed was a ryhme for you, ...........
Do you give, do you live from day to day
Is there no song I can play for you, ............

I'm pretty sure the ELP answer is correct so here goes:
This one was actually a piano concerto by a 20TH century composer with lyrics added to it.
When I was young
I never needed anyone
Making love was just for fun
Those days are gone.

No one ever actually answered my clue.

Might as well continue with Waysider's clue.

It was Eric Carmen back in 75.
Sergei Rachmaninoff, was the composer of the original music.

Having confidence in my answer I submit, for your edification, the following:
The sun goes down
the night grows in
You can feel it starting all over again.
The moon comes up and the music calls
You're gettin' tired of staring at the same four walls.

Opps thats what I get for listening to the song instead of googlin' (whats googlin") it
The sun goes down,
the night rolls in
You can feel it starting all over again
The moon comes up and the music calls
You're gettin' tired of starin' at the same four walls
EHHHH Close but...no cigar

I sure would like to see
That's when that little love of mine

Kathy, you were right...you should have "named that tune" :)
Chas, yours has to be subteranean homesick blues, by Bob Dylan, of course!
