Correct-a-mundo, George. Sorry, I'll be more explicit next time, WW. Pirate's song lyrics are from "Why Don't We Get Drunk and Screw" by Jimmy Buffet. I answered it, albeit not explicitly, in one post and then posted lyrics to my song in the next post.
Sometimes I can read the lyrics and then hear the tune in my head. Other times, I read the lyrics and have absolutely no clue what the rhythm and sound should be.
I can read this one and hear a tune, but not sure it's the right one. Good one, Raf!

One of my best girlfriends used to sing this song all the time. But she's also the same girlfriend who thought the lyrics to "Amadeus" were "Hot Potatoes - Hot Potatoes" :D--> Hence my hesitation to guess the song.

Don't know the title but then I never did like the stones to much. unless it was covered by Flying Burrito brothers also which would make it dead flowers but I think that's another song.

Once beneath the stars, the universe was ours. Love was all we knew, and all I knew was you. I wonder where you are, I wonder if you think about me Once upon a time, IN YOUR WILDEST DREAMS. It mig

From Belle's post, I infer that it was "Why Don't We Get Drunk & Screw" by Jimmy Buffett.

The lyrics now up are:
You just love me when you want me baby
And you think it oughta be alright with me

I believe that song is called "Ask Me No Questions" by BB King. Not sure though.

Hint: It's by a group commonly, and mistakenly, considered a one hit wonder. This is their second U.S. hit.

Every little nest needs a bird...
This song is an "ear worm." It's one of those songs that, once you get it in your head, you can't get it out.
What are you hearing, Belle? I'm willing to give partial credit. :)-->

When that happens to me, I hum "Blame It on the Bossa Nova." It drives out every "ear worm" (except, of course, for "Blame It on the Bossa Nova").

Shoot, I'll give you the whole song, sans title/artist (both of which are actually in the lyrics):
Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls,
(Title, artist)
Johnny played guitar, Jenny played bass.
Name of the band is The Human Race.
Everybody tell me have you heard? (Title)
Jenny played keyboard, Johnny played drums,
Called Little Baby and a big Bonhomme
Everybody tell me have you heard? (Title)
It goes something like this: (partial title)
Johnny and Jenny had a crazy dream,
See their pictures in a magazine.
Every little boy needs a girl.
(Title).
Jenny and Johnny getting smart (it seems)
Made more money on a movie screen.
Every little nest needs a bird.
(Title).
One two three and four is five,
Everybody here is a friend of mine.
Whatever happened to the Duke of Earl?
(Title).
Six seven eight and nine is ten,
Send Al Gunn to see the doctor (Ben)
Say what planet are we on? The third!
(Title).
And Every time I wonder where the world went wrong,
End up lying on my face going ringy dingy ding dong
And every time I wonder if the world is right,
End up in some disco dancin' all night & day.
Johnny played guitar, Jenny played bass,
Name of the band is The Human Race.
Everybody tell me have you heard? (Title).
Johnny played guitar, Jenny played bass,
Ain't nobody couldn't take their place.
Everybody tell me have you heard? (Title)

Since I'm sure of my answer....Thanks, Raf!
Here's my lyric:
And underneath a street lamp I met a Southern Belle
Well she took me to the river, where she cast her spell

And I don't recognize Belle's tune, either.

Okay, here's the whole first verse by this "Little" band:
I've seen the bright lights of Memphis
And the Commodore Hotel
And underneath a street lamp I met a Southern belle
Well she took me to the river, where she cast her spell
And in that Southern moonlight, she sang a song so well

I think I knowwho the band is, thanks to your last clue, but I really have no idea what the song is. (I see why you like it, though!)

:D--> I like any kind of music that mentions the south....cept rap. ;)-->
I'll pull a Raf since no one else seems to know it either. Pity, it's a great song! I didn't dream it's be so obscure.
I've seen the bright lights of Memphis
And the Commodore Hotel
And underneath a street lamp I met a Southern belle
Well she took me to the river, where she cast her spell
And in that Southern moonlight, she sang a song so well
If you'll be my {song title}, I'll be your Tennessee lamb
And we can walk together down in dixieland
Down in dixieland
Well we made all the hot spots. My money flowed like wine
Then that low down Southern whiskey began to fog my mind
And I don't remember church bells or the money I put down
On the white picket fence and boardwalk of the house at the edge of town
But boy do I remember the strain of her refrain
The nights we spent together, and the way she called my name
If you'll be my {song title}, I'll be your Tennessee lamb
And we can walk together down in dixieland
Down in dixieland
Well it's been a year since she ran away
Yes that guitar player sure could play
She always liked to sing along
She's always handy with a song
Then one night in the lobby of the Commodore Hotel
I chanced to meet a bartender who said he knew her well
And as he handed me a drink he began to hum a song
And all the boys there, at the bar, began to sign along
If you'll be my {song title}, I'll be your Tennessee lamb
And we can walk together down in dixieland
Down in dixieland

Some of the lines are reminiscent of the old Dixieland tune, "Bourbon Street Parade"; but obviously that's not it!
