Tom - that effect is called a Talk Box - it's been used frequently by Bon Jovi (guitarist - Richie Sambora) but I think Frampton really put it on the map. Kid Rock, Cher, Pink Floyd, and Faith Hill have all used it - it's a neat effect.

Thanks Chas... I know a lot of folks use it... but they use it a lot... I don't know if I've ever heard a BonJovi song without it... of course, I haven't heard many... wait, it's not in that Cowboy song is it?

I was reminded how much this song moves me as I was listening to my MP3 player on the plane yesterday... (it should be fairly easy since I like it so much I'm gonna post a whole stanza!)
