The original was getting airplay before I was born!

I played it on iTunes and you are right the keyboards are very distinctive like another of their hits.

The most recent cover of this song was by Smash Mouth.

It appeared on "Astro Lounge" along with "All-Star"

(off of "Mystery Men")

and was itself off of the movie "Can't Hardly Wait".

It's easier to remember when you see Jennifer Love Hewitt clowning

around in the video.

The original release of the song was in the late 60s by

Question Mark and the Mysterians.

Their hit "96 Tears" had just put them in the spotlight,

and their very trademark keyboard-work makes it easy to

recognize the artist for one based on the riffs of the other.

"I'm a Believer" by the Monkees (and covered recently). It was written by Neil Diamond, and was actually his biggest hit.

Interesting that you picked that line. I always thought it was "When I needed sunshine on my brain," which made sense in a 60's kind of way. I found out the real lyrics while doing karaoke.

and again by Smash Mouth for Shrek's soundtrack.

They did 2 versions of the video- one with the Monkees style with a

campy chase scene,

the other with characters from Shrek in it.
