OMG! I was only half right. I kept turning that tune over and over-and it hit me.

Paul Simon-Duncan!!!!! I loved that song and it's been ages since I've heard it.

For some reason-I always thought about ROA when I'd hear that song. :biglaugh:

Ok-here goes!

"Guess she's through with me, to tell the truth I just can't see

What's kept the woman holding on this long "

I thought is was time to see some country around here.... :)

All yours, Chas.

...if it's country I just have to 'watch from the sidelines'... but that's OK!

That sounds like one of those songs from the long gone days of my youth Chas...

Kind of like 'the ballad of the Alamo' or 'the ballad of Davy Crockett'... (but I know it's not them)

...I kind of can hear it in my head though...

I didn't appreciate country music much until I was a WOW in Nashville. Even then, it wasn't really my thing, but you heard it everywhere you went. Rather than elevator music, you heard Garth Brooks, Brooks & Dunn, and Sawyer Brown in the malls and supermarkets (Piggly Wiggly - good lord)... So, it sort of grew on me. Some country is what's now called "break through" - as in, it's appealing to the pop and rock crowds - that's the sorta thing I like.

I did grow up listening to country because of my parents... My mother is the only person I know who can't name ONE Beatles' song. Sad. But man, I can tell you every old Waylan, Willie, and Reba song there ever was...

Tom - the song isn't really country... more folk, really... and you're close...

Yes, that's correct!

Sink The Bismark Lyrics

In may of nineteen forty-one the war had just begun

The germans had the biggest ships

That had the biggest guns

The Bismark was the fastest ship

That ever sailed the seas

On her deck were guns as big as steers

And shells as big as trees

Out of the cold and foggy night

Came the british ship the Hood

And ev'ry british seaman he knew and understood

They had to sink the Bismark the terror of the sea

Stop those guns as bid as steers

And those shells as big as trees

We'll find that german battleship

That's makin' such a fuss

We gotta sink the Bismark

'Cause the world depends on us

Hit the decks a-runnin' boys

And spin those guns around

When we find the Bismark we gotta cut her down

The Hood found the Bismark and on that fatal day

The Bismark started firin' fifteen miles away

We gotta sink the Bismark was the battle sound

But when the smoke had cleared away

The mighty Hood went down

For six long days and weary nights

They tried to find her trail

Churchill told the people put ev'ry ship a-sail

'Cause somewhere on that ocean

I know she's gotta be

We gotta sink the Bismark to the bottom of the sea

We'll find that german battleship

That's makin' such a fuss

We gotta sink the Bismark

'Cause the world depends on us

Hit the decks a-runnin' boys

And spin those guns around

When we find the Bismark we gotta cut her down

The fog was gone the seventh day

And they saw the mornin' sun

Ten hours away from homeland

The Bismark made its run

The admiral of the british fleet said

Turn those bows around

We found that german battleship

And we're gonna cut her down

The british guns were aimed

And the shells were comin' fast

The first shell hit the Bismark

They knew she couldn't last

That mighty german battleship is just a memory

Sink the Bismark was the battle cry

That shook the seven seas

We found that german battleship

Was makin' such a fuss

We had to sink the Bismark

'Cause the world depends on us

We hit the deck a-runnin' and

We spun those guns around

We found the mighty Bismark

And then we cut her down

We found that german battleship

Was makin' such a fuss

We had to sink the Bismark

'Cause the world depends on us

We hit the deck a-runnin' and

We spun those guns around

We found the mighty Bismark

And then we cut her down

George - your turn~

I didn't even KNOW there was a song with that title. NOW that I've googled it, I see that Johnny Horton sang it, whoever he is. I feel like Clark Griswald, inadvertently winning a game show. Well...

Well, when I get the paper, I read it through and through.
