I actually gave the song title away in the last post. ~Moody Blues~ A lot of post-1980 MB songs were much more popular from a commercial standpoint. Most of their success came from their work prior to that time period (1964-77). They didn't receive the same kind of play on the radio back then as they did after the band changed its core line-up and front man Justin Hayward took the direction of the band from a progressive rock sound to a synth-pop sound. (VH1) would have played this song and several others. That is why you probably have heard it before but didn't remember who the artist or what the song title was.
Harry Truman, Doris Day, Red China, Johnnie Ray South Pacific, Walter Winchell, Joe DiMaggio Joe McCarthy, Richard Nixon, Studebaker, television North Korea, South Korea, Marilyn Monroe
Rosenbergs, H-bomb, Sugar Ray, Panmunjom Brando, "The King and I" and "The Catcher in the Rye" Eisenhower, vaccine, England's got a new queen Marciano, Liberace, Santayana goodbye
It's a comforting thought that there were hard times before we got here, and there will be hard times after us, and that's part of life. This whole "it's worse than it's ever been" thing lacks perspective.
(The other month I told Wordpup how the current concerns were a LOT less dangerous than the Spanish Flu about 100 years ago. Also told him to pay attention to what's going on and how he feels. He's living through future history, and his grandkids may ask him what it was like to live through this.)
"Crazy Janey and her mission man Were back in the alley tradin' hands. 'Long came Wild Billy with his friend G-Man All duded up for Saturday night. Well, Billy slammed on his coaster brakes
And said, "Anybody wanna go on up to Greasy Lake?
It's about a mile down on the dark side of Route 88
I got a bottle of rosé so let's try it."
I'll switch songs but retain the same artist. I might be the only current poster who knows that song.
"Now, I know your mama, she don't like me, 'cause I play in a rock and roll band
And I know your daddy, he don't dig me, but he never did understand
Your papa lowered the boom, he locked you in your room-- I'm comin' to lend a hand
I'm comin' to liberate you, confiscate you, I want to be your man
Someday we'll look back on this and it will all seem funny."

But now you're sad, your mama's mad
And your papa says he knows that I don't have any money
Your papa says he knows that I don't have any money
Oh, your daddy says he knows that I don't have any money.
Well, tell him this is his last chance to get his daughter in a fine romance-
'Cause a record company, Rosie, just gave me a big advance!"
"Beyond the Palace, hemi-powered drones scream down the boulevard.
Girls comb their hair in rear-view mirrors, and the boys try to look so hard.
The amusement park rises bold and stark, kids are huddled on the beach in a mist.
I wanna die with you, Wendy, on the streets tonight in an everlasting kiss."

Everybody's out on the run tonight, but there's no place left to hide.
Together, Wendy, we can live with the sadness
I'll love you with all the madness in my soul.
Oh, someday, girl, I don't know when,
We're gonna get to that place where we really wanna go
And we'll walk in the sun
But 'til then tramps like us"
"In the day we sweat it out on the streets of a runaway American dream
At night we ride through mansions of glory in suicide machines
Sprung from cages out on Highway 9
Chrome-wheeled, fuel-injected, and steppin' out over the line
Oh, baby, this town rips the bones from your back
It's a death trap, it's a suicide rap
We gotta get out while we're young."
"Wendy, let me in, I wanna be your friend
I wanna guard your dreams and visions.
Just wrap your legs 'round these velvet rims
And strap your hands 'cross my engines.
Together we could break this trap
We'll run 'til we drop, baby, we'll never go back.
Oh, will you walk with me out on the wire?
'Cause, baby, I'm just a scared and lonely rider
But I gotta know how it feels.
I wanna know if love is wild
Babe, I want to know if love is real."

Why don't you give us the artist, maybe that would help? I'm at a loss.
Not giving the artist's name, but I posted most of the song now, in response. Someone seriously proposed that New Jersey adopt this song as their state song.
In case it wasn't obvious, the last few songs were all by the same artist, and all got plenty of airplay. (And I'm posting them in order of increasing popularity. This song is definitely well-known.) AFAIK, in their genre, all 3 still get airplay.
"I had a brother at Khe Sanh, fighting off the Viet Cong.
They're still there, he's all gone.
He had a woman he loved in Saigon.
I got a picture of him in her arms now.
Down in the shadow of the penitentiary,
Out by the gas fires of the refinery.
I'm ten years burning down the road.
Nowhere to run ain't got nowhere to go."

Don't know the title but then I never did like the stones to much. unless it was covered by Flying Burrito brothers also which would make it dead flowers but I think that's another song.

"WE DIDN'T START THE FIRE."

I haven't found anything on my radar about this song. "Tonight There Going Be a Jailbreak" by ~Thin Lizzy~ but I know that isn't it.

This song was big enough that a sitting President wanted to use it in his re-election campaign. Seriously, you've heard this song.
