[title, title]roses are red All the leaves have gone green And the clouds are so low You can touch them, and so Come out to the meadow, [title]
[title, title] you're young and alive Come out of your half-dreamed dream And run, if you will, to the top of the hill Open your arms, bonnie [title]
Till the sheep in the valley come home my way Till the stars fall around me and find me alone When the sun comes a-singin' I'll still be waitin'
For [title, title] roses are red And all of the leaves have gone green While the hills are ablaze with the moon's yellow haze Come into my arms, bonnie [title]
I knew it was Gloria by ~Them~, ~Tom Petty~ and many others but I didn't want to say anything. So if you want to take it WW go ahead. I guess I was just waiting for someone else to play this thread with me and George.
"You were caught in the crossfire of childhood and stardom, blown on the steel breeze. Come on you target for faraway laughter..."
"Well you wore out your welcome with random precision, rode on the steel breeze.
Come on you raver, you seer of visions, come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner..."
I wouldn't know this but if I did I would say it might be a song from ~King Crimson~. Every once in a while I come along a group that I've never heard of (for what reason I don't know, maybe I was under the influence of heavy hallucinogens) and they have been around forever and I may even know one or two of their songs, but only now stumble onto their music. Such is the case for ~King Crimson~. I just heard of them about a year or two ago.
I guarantee this band is better known than King Crimson. I can't name any of their songs. I own 2 albums from this band, and you might own at least one. You've almost certainly listened to them at some point.

"Remember when you were young, and you shone like the sun?"
"Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky."
"You were caught in the crossfire of childhood and stardom, blown on the steel breeze.
Come on you target for faraway laughter, come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and SHINE!"
"You reached for the secret too soon, you cried for the moon."
"Threatened by shadows at night, and exposed in the light."
"Well you wore out your welcome with random precision, rode on the steel breeze.
Come on you raver, you seer of visions, come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and SHINE!"
Someone once said they had a school dance that was heavily monitored. The chaperones allowed the last song of the night to be a request. Someone requested this, and the kids had a slow dance that lasted about 8 minutes...and that wasn't even all the song. Including all the instrumentals and so on, it goes on for TWENTY-SIX MINUTES! (per Wikipedia.)

It was played on album oriented stations so that counts. I remember it I just can't think of the song right now

Don't know the title but then I never did like the stones to much. unless it was covered by Flying Burrito brothers also which would make it dead flowers but I think that's another song.

"Run if you will, to the top of the hill" sounds familiar, but I can't place the rest of the song, at all.

I think the title is "Jean," but I can't remember the artist. Oliver, maybe?

You seem to remember quite well George. It's Jean by ~Oliver~.

I knew it was one of those British blokes...
Wanna tell about my baby
Lord, you know she comes around
About five feet four
From her head to the ground

Thanks. I've had one in mind, on and off.

Don't know it, either.
As for King Crimson, this was the first mention of them, for me, in forty years. I remember my college roommate talk about them.

Sorry. It might be a song I heard often but never paid attention to the lyrics. Not ringing a bell, at all.

This one's more recent than my usual "1985 or older" preference.

So far I don't recognize it. Maybe with a few more lines I might get something.

If you want me,
Why can't you get closer,"
