"I feel a hot wind on my shoulder

And the touch of a world that is older.

I turn the switch and check the number.

I leave it on when in bed I slumber.

I hear the rhythms of the music.

I buy the product and never use it.

I hear the talking of the DJ

Can't understand just what does he say?"

"I dial it in and tune the station.

They talk about the U.S. inflation.

I understand just a little.

No comprende, it's a riddle."

"I wish I was in Tijuana

Eating barbecued iguana.

I'd take requests on the telephone.

I'm on a wavelength far from my home.

I feel a hot wind on my shoulder.

I dial it in from south of the border.

I hear the talking of the dj.

Can't understand- just what does he say?"

This was an 80s one-hit wonder, but I doubt I'm the only one who's heard it.

It's actually been covered since. (Surprised me, too.)

"This generation

rules the nation

with version.

Music happen to be the food of love.

Sounds to really make you rub and scrub."

"It was a cool and lovely breezy afternoon

(How does it feel when you've got no food?)

You could feel it 'cause it was the month of June

(How does it feel when you've got no food?)

So I left my gate and went out for a walk

(How does it feel when you've got no food?)"

As I pass the dreadlocks' camp I heard them say

(How does it feel when you've got no food ?)"

"So I stopped to find out what was going on

(How does it feel when you've got no food?)

'Cause the spirit of Jah, you know, He leads you on

(How does it feel when you've got no food?)

There was a ring of dreads and a session was there in swing

(How does it feel when you've got no food?)

You could feel the chill as I seen and heard them say

(How does it feel when you've got no food?)"

And this was Musical Youth's "Pass the Dutchie."

"Now, I know your mama, she don't like me, 'cause I play in a rock and roll band,

And I know your daddy, he don't dig me, but he never did understand.

Your papa lowered the boom, he locked you in your room-- I'm comin' to lend a hand.

I'm comin' to liberate you, confiscate you, I want to be your man.

Someday we'll look back on this and it will all seem funny."

But now you're sad, your mama's mad

And your papa says he knows that I don't have any money.

Your papa says he knows that I don't have any money.

Oh, your daddy says he knows that I don't have any money.

Well, tell him this is his last chance to get his daughter in a fine romance

'Cause a record company, Rosie, just gave me a big advance! "

"Spread out now Rosie, Doctor come cut loose her mama's reins.

You know playin' 'blind man's bluff' is a little baby's game

You pick up Little Dynamite, I'll pick up Little Gun

And together we're gonna go out tonight and make that highway run."

'Cause a record company, Rosie, just gave me a big advance!

And my tires were slashed and I almost crashed, but the Lord had mercy.

And my machine, she's a dud, out stuck in the mud somewhere in the swamps of Jersey.

Well, hold on tight, stay up all night, 'cause Rosie, I'm comin' on strong.

By the time we meet the morning light, I will hold you in my arms.

I know a pretty little place in Southern California, down San Diego way.

There's a little cafe, where they play guitars all night and all day.

You can hear them in the back room strummin'

So hold tight, baby, 'cause don't you know Daddy's comin'?"

Sorry. Not getting it.

George

Apparently not. That was a lot of lyrics.

Ok, different song, same artist.

"Some silicone sister with her manager's mister told me I got what it takes.

She said, "I'll turn you on, sonny, to something strong if you play that song with the funky break".

And Go-Cart Mozart was checkin' out the weather chart to see if it was safe to go outside.

And little Early-Pearly came by in her curly-wurly and asked me if I needed a ride."

"Blinded by the Light" by Manfred Mann?

George

That's it,

but I always remember the cover that Bruce Springsteen at least as well.

The other song was Springsteen's "Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)".

I used to hear this song air a lot- but apparently, NYC classic rock stations

and rock stations are weird that way. Maybe because Bruce is from Jersey,

but I think the song really rocks, especially Clarence Clemon's saxophone

work towards the end.

This song shows up on pop stations this time of year, though it's more of a country song. Lee Ann Rimes did a cover about a decade ago. Mariah Carey had a different song with the same title.

Take back the holly and mistletoe

Silver bells on strings

If I wrote a letter to Santa Claus

I would ask for just one thing

I don't need sleigh rides in the snow

Don't want a Christmas that's blue

Take back the tinsel, stockings, and bows

[TITLE]

I don't need expensive things

They don't matter to me

All that I want, it can't be found

Underneath the Christmas tree

You are the angel atop my tree

You are my dream come true

Santa can't bring me what I need

[TITLE]

No. He did a cover years later. See WW's post.

George

Oh but I disagree. It's a Springsteen tune, written by Bruce. Manfred just covered it.And, I'm not offended. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blinded_by_the_Light

That's interesting.

It's off the 1973 "Greetings from Asbury Park."

The songs remembered off that, much later, are "Blinded by the Light" and "Spirits in the Night."

(I thought about posting that one but figured I'd be the only one here and now who'd

remember it.)

Manfred Mann covered it in 1977.

Oh, and "All I Want for Christmas is You."

I didn't realize that Springsteen was performing that early.

You are correct with the new title. Vince Vance and the Valiants' recurring hit.
