It's a tune by a Metal Band from the early 70's. The singer is more iconic than the band ever was or is. However, they did get back together last year to produce a new album.

You obviously listened to different radio stations than I did.
George
No, it's what I listen to now. We probably listened to the same stuff back when.
That song is over 40 years old.
Might be what he's listening to now, or a few years ago.
I know I wasn't listening to anything hard when you were listening to soft rock,
and I wasn't listening to Cake in the 70s because I don't think they were
a band in the 70s. Not that they're hard rock, of course.
Nowadays, he might listen to anything on the radio, on some specialized cable
music channel if he has one, or stream online for just about any format that's
still in operation.
"Who Are You?"- by The Who.
Right. And right again. And right again WordWolf. It's Who are You. It's not that I'm so removed from what I listened to back in the day. I'm glad you asked though. I still listen to that every day. My personal tastes though for the same ole' same ole' have changed, and I started to listen to alternative rock (still a lot like rock n' roll), and I started liking it. The bands like the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Counting Crows, R.E.M., and The Killers I've come to embrace mostly because I got tired of listening to so many commercials that the radio stations would play. Most stations play the same thing over and over. I just got bored with listening to it. I don't have sirius radio or anything. I still like the old stuff. I just like the other stuff too. I prefer CD's though over radio anyday.
OK. This is another one where several posts went Bye-bye. I remember correctly answering "Ode to Billie Jo" by Bobbi Gentry. I don't remember what I followed up with, so let's go with
Oh well, there's Flo on my left and there's Mary on my right
And Janie is the girl with that I'll be with tonight

It was played on album oriented stations so that counts. I remember it I just can't think of the song right now

Don't know the title but then I never did like the stones to much. unless it was covered by Flying Burrito brothers also which would make it dead flowers but I think that's another song.

Once beneath the stars, the universe was ours. Love was all we knew, and all I knew was you. I wonder where you are, I wonder if you think about me Once upon a time, IN YOUR WILDEST DREAMS. It mig

Generals gathered in their masses
Just like witches at black masses
Evil minds that plot destruction
Sorcerer of death's construction
In the fields the bodies burning
As the war machine keeps turning
Death and hatred to mankind.
Poisoning their brainwashed minds
Oh Lord, yeah!

A few mores lines.
Politicians hide themselves away
They only started the war
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that to all the poor
Yeah!
Time will tell them they are power minds
Making war just for fun
Treating people just like pawns in chess
Wait til' their judgement day comes
Yeah!

Not the right song for the thread. It was War Pigs by ~Black Sabbath~. Ozzie Osbourne
This is ~Cake's~ version of the 70's song "War Pigs".

That's certainly a departure from Cake's usual cheerful melodies.
Usually their tempos are upbeat even when the lyrics are about death.

It blew my away when they covered Guitar Man by ~Bread~.
Here's another song:
I woke up in a Soho doorway
A policeman knew my name
He said, "You can go sleep at home tonight
If you can get up and walk away"
I staggered back to the underground
And the breeze blew back my hair
I remember throwin' punches around
And preachin' from my chair

It was the third of June, another sleepy, dusty Delta day
I was out choppin' cotton, and my brother was balin' hay
And at dinner time we stopped and walked back
to the house to eat
And Mama hollered out the back door, "y' all, remember to wipe your feet!"

No,

I had a narrow window before it was too old.

I go through life without a care
And I'm as happy as a clown
With my two fists of iron and I'm going nowhere

Sorry, but I don't get the funny?
George's song is "The Wanderer". ~Dion~
Your lyrics just popped into my head while driving today. And I go, Oh yeah, "That's the wanderer".
If your down and confused
And you don't remember who your talking too
Concentration, slip away
Cuz' your baby is so far away
Well there's a rose in a fisted glove
And the eagle flies with the dove

"Diary of a Very Tired Car Mechanic"????
Apparently, "Diary of a Very Tired..." is a running theme. :)

To send their wanted son
Up to the White House
Yes, the nation's only White House
To voice their discontent
Unto the President
To ask the burning question
That has swept this continent-"
