You've got the song right, so I'll give it to you. Percy Sledge did the most famous version, followed by Michael Bolton.
The only good thing about the song is that women will usually dance REALLY CLOSE to it. Maybe that's why guys like it. Of course, the lyrics describe the guy as a total idiot.
RichardHarris (the actor) was the first to record this song. I remember My little sister would play her 45 rpm over and over again and in 1968, the song played frequently on the radio as well, reaching # 2 on the American charts. Unusual for a song of it's length over 7 minutes long, it comprised of four movements, amid-tempo arrangement, a slow tempo and quiet arrangement, an Allegro, and finally a reprise of the first arrangement. Harris used MacArthur Park to debut his pop career. Donna Summer recorded it, Waylon Jennings's too and others.

Don't know the title but then I never did like the stones to much. unless it was covered by Flying Burrito brothers also which would make it dead flowers but I think that's another song.

Obeying every rule.
Deep way down in your heart
You're burning yearning for
Somebody to tell you
That life ain't passing you by.

It will if you don't even try."

This one does seem familiar, but I can't associate a melody with the words.

"Been working so hard.
I'm punching my card.
Eight hours for what?
Oh, tell me what I got.
I've got this feeling
That times are holding me down.
I'll hit the ceiling
Or else I'll tear up this town."

You put the boom-boom into my heart
You send my soul sky high when your lovin' starts
Jitterbug into my brain
Goes abang-bang-bang 'til my feet do the same

"Love Shack" by the B-52s.
This song is very popular. I can understand why women like it, but guys should hate it:
Tryin' to hold on to what he needs
He'd give up all his comforts, sleep out in the rain
If she said that's the way it ought to be.

Thanks. I should of at least said Michael Bolton. My wife and I recently had a conversation about the song.
When there's no where else to run
Is there room for one more son
One more son
If you can hold on,
If you can hold on, hold on
I wanna stand up, I wanna let go
You know, you know ~ no you don't, you don't
I wanna shine on in the hearts of men
I wanna mean it from the back of my broken hand
Another head aches, another heart breaks
I am so much older than I can take
And my affection, well it comes and goes
I need direction to perfection, no no no no

Yeah, you know you gotta help me out
Yeah, Oh don't you put me on the back burner
You know you gotta help me out
Your gonna bring yourself down
Yeah, your gonna bring yourself down
Yeah, your gonna bring yourself down

OK, I thought someone would recognize it with the "I'm not a soldier part" included. Not for everyone I guess.
~The Killers~ All These Things That I Have Done
There would be another song for me
For I will sing it
There would be another dream for me
Someone will bring it
I will drink the wine while it is warm
And never let you catch me looking at the sun
And after all the loves of my life
After all the loves of my life, you'll still be the one

Come on WordWolf, I know you know this one.
There would be another song for me
For I will sing it
There would be another dream for me
Someone will bring it
I will drink the wine while it is warm
And never let you catch me looking at the sun
And after all the loves of my life
After all the loves of my life, you'll still be the one

Well I wouldn't want that, so here's a little more
There would be another song for me
For I will sing it
There would be another dream for me
Someone will bring it
I will drink the wine while it is warm
And never let you catch me looking at the sun
And after all the loves of my life
After all the loves of my life, you'll still be the one
I will take my life into my hands, and I will use it
I will win the worship in their eyes and I will lose it
I will have the things that I desire
And my passion flow like rivers through the sky
And after all the loves of my life
Oh, and after all the loves of my life
I will be thinking of you - and wondering why

Here's the beginning of the song. If this doesn't do anything I'll give it up.
Spring was never waiting for us, girl
It ran one step ahead
As we followed in the dance
Between the parted pages and the prayers
Still love's hot, fevered iron
Like a striped pair of pants
