How's about "I'm Your Captain" by Grand Funk Railroad? If I'm right (or wrong), can another Dan post the youtube connection to it? Loving being an old fogie and listening to all the music of my youth.
And, yes, another Dan, Roberta Flack is the first one I recall recording "First Time Ever I Saw Your Face". Have the CD that one is on, and enjoy listening to it.
Thanks Another Dan. Especially liked the 2nd one with the interview. Kids are facing the same things today, get at the reason for the desire to "escape", handle it, and then leave the drugs behind.
Don't like to leave ya hangin' too long. I guess there are no countrified people browsing the Name That Tune thread at the moment. It is a great (and fun) song, and I think akin to the second one sung by a very young (someone said he was 15) Hank Williams Jr.
My clues were from the very first lines... It's Patty Loveless, "Blame it on Your Lyin' Cheatin' Heart"
pedigree:
great sound quality on both of these... amazing for the second one, with reverb and all
Next Song:
Mother mother, there's too many of you cryin'
Brother brother brother there's far too many of you dying
That is freaky, Tom
Suda.... I should have done better on the science test

Don't know the title but then I never did like the stones to much. unless it was covered by Flying Burrito brothers also which would make it dead flowers but I think that's another song.

music is what we like to play
all day all day all day all day all day
to soothe your soul, yeah
down at the beach y'all partying down
making love or lying around
to soothe your mind
This song is all about the groove.... not so much the lyrics. Got lots of air time. Y'all know the band.... these are not one-hit wonders.

Tombo is right. You're up.
Why you gonna kick yourself, another Dan? Too chick-y or because you can't remember, or another reason?

Tom, LOL Very Good
Suda, I just couldn't place the melody... it was "right there". Good one.
Was it Roberta Flack that had the first big hit with it?

here's one for you other old fogies:
(it's only one line, but it should be enough to get stuck in your brain and drive you crazy)
Am I in my cabin dreaming, or are you really scheming,
To take my ship away from me?

Captain! my Captain! our fearful trip is done, The ship has weather'd every rack,
the prize we sought is won, The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring; But O heart! heart! heart!
O the bleeding drops of red, Where on the deck my Captain lies, Fallen cold and dead.
O Captain! my Captain! rise up and hear the bells; Rise up- for you the flag is flung- for
you the bugle trills,
For you bouquets and ribbon'd wreaths- for you the shores
a-crowding,
For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning;
Here Captain! dear father!
This arm beneath your head!
It is some dream that on the deck,
You've fallen cold and dead.
My Captain does not answer, his lips are pale and still,
My father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse nor will,
The ship is anchor'd safe and sound, its voyage closed and done,
From fearful trip the victor ship comes in with object won;
Exult O shores, and ring O bells!
But I with mournful tread,
Walk the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead.
Walt Whitman
nope, that's not it. Maybe it's "Ride Captain, Ride" If it is, I have no idea who sang that.

"Ride Captain Ride" was by Blues Image... but that's not it...
Am I in my cabin dreaming, or are you really scheming,
To take my ship away from me?
Youd better think about it, I just cant live without it.
So, please dont take my ship from me.
Yeah, yeah, yeah ...
