With all the charms of a woman
You've kept the secret of your youth
You led me to believe you're old enough
To give me love
And now it hurts to know the truth
With all the charms of a woman
You've kept the secret of your youth
You led me to believe you're old enough
To give me love
And now it hurts to know the truth
George
You know that you've been around for awhile, when you can look at these 50 plus yr. old lyrics and first thing that runs through your mind is "that's Gary Puckett & the Union Gap", and the song followed "Young Girl". It kind of blew my mind.
Usually if no bites are taken that means no one has a clue, especially after 5 days.
"She was a working girl
North of England way
Now she's hit the big time
In the U.S.A.
And if she could only hear me
This is what I'd say
[song title], you are making me crazy
I'm in love, but I'm lazy
So won't you please come home"?
Oh, [song title]
My position is tragic
Come and show me the magic
Of your Hollywood song
You became a legend of the silver screen
And now the thought of meeting you
Makes me weak in the knee
Oh, [song title]
You are driving me frantic
Sail across the Atlantic
To be where you belong
[song title, come back to me
(Ooh)
(Yeah)
I like it like that (ooh ah)
I like this kind of
Hot kind of music
Hot kind of music
Play it to me, play it to me
Hollywood blues
Will the wind that blew her boat across the sea
Kindly send her sailing back to me?
T-t-tee
Now, [song title]
You are making me crazy
I'm in love but I'm lazy
So won't you please come home?
Come, come back to me, [song title]
Ha, ha, ha
Hoo-woo-doo ooh-ooh
Bo bo
Buh-huh-buh wa-ooh-uh bo bo
[song title, song title]
Sorry. Ran it past the Mrs, as she's the bigger Beatle-phile. She didn't recognize it either.
It's obscure for sure, but most of the songs on the "White Album" are just that. Obscure. If you listen to "Revolution #9" it comes off completely unlike "Revolution" even though it's the same song. The White album was a compilation of things that the band had laying around and with a little genius on the part of George Martin and because the "Fab Four" weren't into being "Fab" anymore, some songs like this one, "Honey Pie", "Helter Skelter", "Savoy Shuffle" and "Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except for Me and My Monkey" remain obscure today but it highlights the eclectic achievements that the Beatles were always about.
I've heard "Everybody's Got Something...." on the air before. "Helter Skelter" is actually very famous- but not for being on The White Album.
Bono: "Here's a song Charles Manson stole from the Beatles. We're stealing it back." Bono said that as U2 went into their version of "Helter Skelter." IIRC, that was on U2's "Rattle and Hum" album.
Oh, alright. No one got "Honey Pie" so I'll go again.
"I've been searching for something
Taken out of my soul
Something I'd never lose
Something somebody stole
I don't know why I go walking at night
But now I'm tired and I don't want to walk anymore
I hope it doesn't take the rest of my life
Until I find what it is I've been looking for"
"I've been searching for something
Taken out of my soul
Something I'd never lose
Something somebody stole
I don't know why I go walking at night
But now I'm tired and I don't want to walk anymore
I hope it doesn't take the rest of my life
Until I find what it is I've been looking for"
"In the middle of the night
I go walking in my sleep
Through the jungle of doubt
To a river so deep
I know I'm searching for something
Something so undefined
That it can only be seen
By the eyes of the blind
In the middle of the night
I'm not sure about a life after this
God knows I've never been a spiritual man
Baptized by the fire, I wade into the river
That runs to the promised land"
I have a lot of trouble recognizing stuff off of that album.
That's "RIVER OF DREAMS," the title cut off the album.
It's easy to understand why when you know the history.
At one point, Billy Joel realized he'd trusted a relative to handle his finances- only to discover his relative was embezzling and stealing all his money. When he realized that, BJ realized he now had no financial security, and if something happened to him, there was no security for his daughter. Up until now, he'd been slowly releasing albums once he had a quality playlist. NOW, he rushed out 2 albums in a row. On the bright side, that made him more financially secure (he'd fired the embezzler and sued him.) On the other hand, the fans were disappointed about the loss of quality control.
Or, to put it differently, that's probably the only Billy Joel album from which I know ONE SONG. Other albums, I may not remember which songs were from which albums, but if you ran their titles past me, I could identify several songs per album. (I'm not counting "Cold Spring Harbor", I'm counting from "Piano Man" on through "Storm Front.")
To clarify the timeline, "Storm Front" was mostly done when he discovered the embezzling, and he rushed the album out. IMHO, it's still pretty good. "River of Dreams" suffered from BJ's need to get more money ASAP.
Yes that's right. Billy Joel's has been divorced three times, married a fourth time, and no doubt, that has to add more pressure financially. BJ just released a new album this week which I hope has got some hits on it. "Turn the Lights Back On" it's called. I didn't know anything about the embezzlement WordWolf. That had to be rough on him.
Next song. What will I post? Ok, something just started playing on the radio....
"Two cars park on the overpass.
Rocks hit the water like broken glass.
I shoulda known right then it was too good to last.
God, it's such a drag when you're living in the past."
"Baby, time meant nothin', anything seemed real
Yeah, you could kiss like fire and you made me feel
Like every word you said was meant to be
No, it couldn't been that easy to forget about me."
"Two cars park on the overpass. Rocks hit the water like broken glass. I shoulda known right then it was too good to last. God, it's such a drag when you're living in the past."
"Well it was nearly summer, we sat on your roof.
Yeah, we smoked cigarettes and we stared at the moon.
And I showed you stars you never could see.
No, it couldn't been that easy to forget about me."
"Baby, time meant nothin', anything seemed real Yeah, you could kiss like fire and you made me feel Like every word you said was meant to be No, it couldn't been that easy to forget about me."
"Keep a little bit of pride.
They get lucky sometimes."
"Two cars park on the overpass. Rocks hit the water like broken glass. I shoulda known right then it was too good to last. God, it's such a drag when you're living in the past."
"I've given up, stop!
I've given up, stop!
Ah, ah, ah, ooh-ooh.
I've given up, stop, on waiting any longer.
I've given up, on this love getting stronger."
"I don't feel you any more.
You darken my door.
Whatever you're looking for."
"I've given up, stop!
I've given up, stop!
Ah, ah, ah, ooh-ooh.
I've given up, stop, you tangle my emotions.
I've given up, honey please, admit it's over."
I told Wordpup that I picture The Mad Hatter as looking like a certain musician. The video for this song is why, and I had to show him. I think he pictures him the same way now.

It was played on album oriented stations so that counts. I remember it I just can't think of the song right now

Don't know the title but then I never did like the stones to much. unless it was covered by Flying Burrito brothers also which would make it dead flowers but I think that's another song.

I'm much more familiar with early Beatles than late Beatles. Should be in WW's wheelhouse, though.
