The rhyme-scheme keeps making me think the missing title should be the Beatles' "Your Mother Should Know." However, I know enough of the song that I'm confident this is NOT it. I also don't think this is ANY Beatles song despite that.  Â
This is really close.
You have the wrong decade and the wrong quartet from the wrong country, but the title is very close.
Yeah, look, I put the whole song up there and if you still don't know it I would have to do something drastic, like try to figure out if the rhyme scheme is ABAB or AABB or ABBA or something.
I picked up one of their greatest hits albums not too long ago. Only trouble is I've been hesitant to play it in my car until I get a new CD cleaner, otherwise I would have whipped out the album and tagged this one, that is if it was on the album? Â
For the record, Mrs Wolf knows SOME ABBA stuff, but she didn't recognize it, and then she looked it up so she was ineligible to guess it.   It's funny that I knew NOTHING about the song, but was able to piece together part of the missing rhyme based on other songs and experience.  Then again, it's not like most pop songs come out of NOWHERE.
"Kick down the barricades.
Listen what the kids say.
From time to time people change their minds
But the music is here to stay.
I've seen it all from the bottom to the top"Â
"Turned on the radio
Sounded like a disco
Musta turned the dial for a couple of miles
But I couldn't find no rock 'n roll
This computerized crap ain't gettin' me off"

"London to L.A.
Talkin' 'bout the New Wave.
For a couple of bucks you get a weird haircut
And waste your life away.

"And now the times are changin'.
Look at everything that's come and gone.
Sometimes when I play that old six-string,
I think about you, wonder what went wrong."
Â
That's like, Hmm, you didn't recognize Clint Eastwood from Revenge of the Creature from the Black Lagoon.... Maybe you say that other movie of his, Dirty Harry?
Â
Or in this case, that first song is a puzzler, but this song SHOULD have been called "The Best Days of My Life."
Instead, it was the "Summer of 69," also known as the FIRST days of MY life.
I tried being a little less drastic with Genesis songs and just had a bunch of confused posters.
In this case, you are CORRECT.
BTW, I think "THE KIDS WANNA ROCK" isn't an obscure song. I went over the Bryan Adams songs that got significant airplay, 1985 or sooner (my personal limiter). This one got quite a bit- at least I heard it a lot.

It was played on album oriented stations so that counts. I remember it I just can't think of the song right now

Don't know the title but then I never did like the stones to much. unless it was covered by Flying Burrito brothers also which would make it dead flowers but I think that's another song.

Ok, then the song that was on my mind last time I logged in. Â
"Take your baby by the hair, and pull her close and there, there, there.
And take your baby by the ears, and play upon her darkest fears."

Sadly, both late and incorrect. It was Bryan Adams' "THE KIDS WANNA ROCK." Raf got the current song, Bryan Adams' "Summer of 69".
