Knew that one waysider only I thought it wasn't that song because the lyric after love, it's been sweet even though incompletewasn't there. Guess that was the second verse.
I'll take it.
the song Begins;
Throughout history there have been many songs
written about the Eternal Triangle.
This next one tells the story about a man named Mr.Grayson
A Beautiful woman, and a condemned man named > SONG TITLE <
It is, indeed, Morning Dew. However, it was written by Bonnie Dobson.
Here's an interesting tidbit: Wikipedia says, "Fred Neill heard Dobson's song and re-arranged it to suit his own style. Tim Rose heard Neil's version and then recorded his own in 1966, adding himself as co-writer. Through a loophole in US copyright law, Rose was able to claim royalties. Dobson has consistently questioned Rose's right to a co-writing credit."
My vinyl copy of the Dead's Europe '72 cites "Rose-Dobson" as co-writers.
But yes, you're right.
Edit: I just checked my copy of Jeff Beck's "Truth" and it also lists Rose-Dobson as writers. I only mention all this because I knew there had to be a reason I cited TR earlier.
I had no desire to be "right", per se. I just think it's cool to look at the roots of some of these old tunes. One of my personal favorite "covers" is by The Damnation of Adam Blessing. The lead guitar and drummer are old school mates of mine.
I noticed this link didn't go through so I posted again. Apparently, Tom Dooley was written about a real convicted murderer who killed a woman in 1867 or 68 and was hung for it!

Don't know the title but then I never did like the stones to much. unless it was covered by Flying Burrito brothers also which would make it dead flowers but I think that's another song.

When we were at school, our games were simple.
I played a janitor, you played a monitor.
Then you played with boys and other prefects.
What's the attraction in what they're doing?

I can't stay, yes, I know
You know I hate to go
But, goodbye, love was sweet
Our worlds can never meet.

Alright. I wouldn't know it from that either. The beginning starts with a narration about the story behind the song.
Throughout history there have been many songs
written about the Eternal Triangle.
This next one tells the story about a man named Mr.Grayson
A Beautiful woman, and a condemned man named > SONG TITLE <
When the sun rises tomorrow, > SONG TITLE < must die
Then, it goes > I Met her on the mountain, there I took her life
Met her on the mountain, stabbed her with my knife. (grissly!)

Long ago and oh so far away
I fell in love with you before the second show
Your guitar, it sounds so sweet and clear
But you're not really here
It's just the radio

"Morning Dew", written by Tim Rose and performed by the Grateful Dead and Jeff Beck Group, among others.
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot
With a pink hotel, a boutique, and a swinging hot spot

Here is the original, acoustic version. (inspired by the novel, "On The Beach" by Nevil Shute)
