My wife took a look at these words and guessed the artist right away. I'm not saying that with everyone it should be so easy, but I think this is an easy song to guess.

Hint: A super artist plays this song with a groovin beat! This song had the classic style that defined his music.

At least I always loved his music because of its tempo and upbeat rock n' roll sound.

I'll give it to Wordwolf. The song is "My God" from the Aqualung album (1971).

For those who don't know, "Aqualung" was one of the first great concept albums -- in this case the concept is Christianity and the Church of England. I think almost all of you would enjoy it. Great music, great lyrics.

I should point out that about the only restriction on this thread is that the song had airplay, and was not just someone's favorite album cut. I don't recall ever hearing "My God," but that doesn't mean it wasn't aired in other markets.

As near as I can tell (using Google Fu), this song was never released as a single in the US (thus no US airplay),

but might have gotten UK airplay, which counts.
