You're Right of Course.... "Nightfly" was the name of the Donald Fagen Album on which "Ruby Baby" appeared...I was trying to be a smart a$$ and screwed it all up, So I will pass it back you GeoStGeo...
No, wait. That can't be it(unless it's GREEN beer)
Could it be "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling"?
Sorry. Even though I'm sure it's been recorded a zillion times, I can't name any artists other than maybe Dennis Day or The Chieftains as possibilities. And I think there may have been a Country artist who did it back in the '50's but I don't recall his name.
If that answer is correct, it would appear to me that Wasway has it and is tossing out a clue with the eyeglasses.

It was played on album oriented stations so that counts. I remember it I just can't think of the song right now

Don't know the title but then I never did like the stones to much. unless it was covered by Flying Burrito brothers also which would make it dead flowers but I think that's another song.

Each time I see you baby my heart cries
I'm gonna steal you away from all those guys
This song has been covered at least twice, so any of three performers will do.

Steely Dan did a cover of the song, but its title is not "Nitefly" (or anything similar).

It was "Ruby, Baby." I prefer the Dion version, but Steely Dan and Bjork (!) also covered it.
You're up, Wasway!

OK here is one from my youth,,
Don't you ever listen to the radio
When the big bad beat comes on
I know you gotta dig it
I know you can't stop it
Cause the bottom comes on so strong
Talkin 'bout...................,
Actually, the band played it at our Homecoming Dance in '68

HMMMM.
The band played at your homecoming in 1968,so I'm thinking it's likely to be one of these:
1) Mitch Rider and the Detroit Wheels
2) Ted Nugent
3) Bob Seger
4)Grand Funk Railroad
5) Terry Knight and the Pack
6) The James Gang (On a road trip)

Honey you know the springtime of life is the sweetest of all
There is never a real care or regret
And while springtime is ours throughout all youth hours
Let us smile each chance we get

OK. The month is March. We have:
1)March Madness
2)First day of Spring
3)Time change
4)St Patricks' Day
5)In like a lion, out like a lamb
And lest we forget-----Beware The Ides Of March!
Ok. I know I'm not even close but HEY!------I gave it a shot.

Here is another versions intro:
There's a tear in your eye,
and I'm wondering why,
For it never should be there at all.
With such power in your smile,
sure a stone you'd beguile,
So there's never a teardrop should fall.
When your sweet lilting laughter's
like some fairy song,
And your eyes twinkle bright as can be,
You should laugh all the while
and all other times smile,
And now smile a smile for me.

Wasway, how clever.
Many artist have done it, it was originally written in 1912.
So with that in mind, Bing Crosby.
So bring on the Charm and have a go,Wasway.

I heard this one on the radio yesterday... almost wrecked my car
How his naked ears were tortured
By the sirens sweetly singing
For the sparkling waves are calling you
To kiss their white lace legs
And you see your girl's brown body
Dancing through the turquoise
And her footprints make you follow
Where the sky loves the sea
And when your fingers find her
She drowns you in her body
Carving deep blue ripples
In the tissues of your mind
