When this song hit the charts in the mid 60's, it sounded like the group was describing a group activity that definately could not have received airplay at that time. It sounded as if they were singing " You and Me And Leslie"
I was reminded how much this song moves me as I was listening to my MP3 player on the plane yesterday... (it should be fairly easy since I like it so much I'm gonna post a whole stanza!)

Two hints:
#1 - The song title, which is share by another band, has already been mentioned in this thread recently.
#2 - The song was re-made by another band within this decade and did very well on the charts.

Correct.
I found that song expresses some thoughts I've never fully articulated.

And it used to be for a while
That the river flowed right to my door
Making me just a little too free
But now the river doesnt seem to stop here anymore

He said I was finally the husband
that most the time I wasn't
and I became a friend a friend would like to have
and all the sudden going fishin
wasn't such an imposition
and I went three times that year I lost my dad
well I finally read the good book
and I took a good long hard look
at what I'd do if I could do it all again
