I was waiting to see if anyone else knew this one since it's a bit obscure.
But your only partially right Wasway. It was Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz, bass player and drumer for the Talking heads that formed Tom Tom Club. (They were also husband and wife).
They did it as a side gig while still with TH. David Byrne had nothing to do with it.
Ira Hayes (excuse the spelling) by Johnny Cash (I grew up listening to this - and I'm probably the only 30-something who's into Johnny Horton, as a result of this...) (Parents can be a bad influence sometimes...)
Yeah, that is an old Leadbelly tune but your probably referring to the remake done by a group called Ram Jam. Can't think of anything else they ever did other than Black Betty.

Don't know the title but then I never did like the stones to much. unless it was covered by Flying Burrito brothers also which would make it dead flowers but I think that's another song.

No,
it's wasway's turn.
wasway did name the title-"Genius of Love"
and the band-"the TomTom Club".
This isn't exactly Jeopardy or anything.
Bluez knew the history, but that's not the question. :)
Go, wasway!

You guys should be able to get it from this one line:

Tom's song is "The Sloop John B" by the Beach Boys.
I'll let wasway post another clue.

I guess that's close enough... and it didn't occur to me until afterwards that the clue is actually in the title..
it's San Francisco (Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair) by Scott McKenzie

You are correct!
(Kristopher, my 4 year old, has made up a version of that about the baby...
"woe-hoe fat baby, bam ba lam / woe-hoe fat baby, bam ba lam
fat baby got fat, bam ba lam / he's bigger than the cat, bam ba lam..."
Yeah... we're warping the kids early on!)
