Naw.. you had me dead to rights the first time. I Googled it. I've tuned in to this thread a few times but never posted. I couldn't quite understand why folks wouldn't just look the lyrics up... Google them. So I saw the latest example, quickly Googled it and what the heck.. posted the Google result. Didn't seem like much of a challenge. I guess since that is so easy to do that the rules of the thread stipulate 'ya gotta' do it from memory. I wouldn't trust a thread that said you couldn't Google stuff. It's kind of like having a test in school where the teacher leaves the room, promises not to return for an hour, and says there is to be no turning in anyone for cheating. How much cheating do you think would be going on?
But I apologize, Wordwolf. I didn't know there was no Googling allowed. Won't happen again.
If you check through this thread (and Name that Flick), you'll find that some players "give up" and google the answer. That's fine, as long as they don't post their results. Some will admit to googling but not give away the answer. The "Nostalgia Thread" wouldn't be much fun if everybody googled answers, either.
You're right. I didn't read the whole thread to see how ya'll played it. I apologize again. My bad.

P.S. Googling IS allowed on Nostalgia, BTW. If I think someone's too good... I start posting tunes with no lyrics and see how they do. Let 'em try to Google da-de-da-da-dum :D.

Don't know the title but then I never did like the stones to much. unless it was covered by Flying Burrito brothers also which would make it dead flowers but I think that's another song.

That's not it-so it HAS to be the OTHER song I thought it was....
"Abra Abra cadabra", Steve Miller Band.
(I wanna reach out and grab ya.)
Thanks so much for bringing us back to songs post-Elvis. :D
I don't own any 78s.

Let's see if you guys can get this song.
(It's a little later than some of you prefer.)
"It was a beautiful day,
The sun beat down,
I had the radio on,
I was drivin'.
Trees went by
Me and 'Del' were singing
'Little Runaway'
I was flyin'."
If you recall this song, you'll probably remember the opening guitar riff FIRST.

Sudo,
this is "Name that Tune"
not "Google that Tune."
Anybody can do a web-search for a song and artist.
That's NOT what this thread is about.
This is a thread where people try to use memory and grey-matter to
name songs.
It's cheating to google for the song.
It is also cheating to google for the song and then post the link you googled,
or to drop hints because you know the song because you googled it.
========
Then again,
it's possible that you recognized the quote and artist,
then googled to get a copy of the lyrics-
for reasons which escape me.
It's unlikely but certainly possible.
Is that what happened?

Kinda pointless to cheat when there's no score, no way to win or lose,
and we're on the honor system, I figure.
Plus,
I've played trivia games with teenagers, and THEY have no trouble
sticking to the honor code....

I liked the last song because it referenced Del Shannon's "Little Runaway".
But, we move on.

Trying to sneak a Jethro Tull song past me?
Might have worked-had it not been THAT Jethro Tull song.
"Bungle in the Jungle", Jethro Tull.
(Yours was, of course, correct.)

Happens every week

I figured one easy song deserved another. Now THIS one I don't know. (Maybe Sudo does!)

This one IS tougher, and less recent than the last.
But I, personally, HAVE heard it on the radio, which means I feel
it's not an impossible shot.

Correct, Pirate.
Which, of course, raises the question
"Why did I hear this song played?"
Must have been a fluke at the radio station.
Go, Pirate!

"Drivin' in to Darlington County,
My eyes seen the comin' of the glory of the Lord.
Drivin' in to Darlington City
Seen Wayne handcuffed to the bumper of a State Trooper's Ford."
"Darlington County" is off Bruce Springsteen's famous "Born to Run" album.
Oddly, you picked one of the lines I remember most easily from the song.
(That and the preceding and following lines.)
