It got a LOT of play when it came out (late '60's). One of the best "novelty" songs from a master of the genre.
Moony PM'ed me to tell me the answer but that she's too busy studying to post the next clue. Raf apparently knows, but he's not telling. If no one else pipes in, I'll try ANOTHER song tomorrow.
Ah, yes. another acrostic. I should have realized that there was a reason for all those ramblings about Greek gods. I just assumed you knew it from "give them a hand"!
Uhh, Sharon? Well first, Yes it is Salt & Pepper, or rather 'Salt N Pepa.' But second, it is definitely not "Whatta Man."
I can get where you may be confused.
Because both the song "Whatta Man" and the name of the song with the lyrics,"Girls, what's my weakness? Men!," / "I'm not shy so I asked for the digits" are on the same "Very Necessary" album.
The last four lines seem vaguely familiar, but I can't place it. I think part of the problem is that we seem to be losing players. Belle? Sharon? Others?

It was played on album oriented stations so that counts. I remember it I just can't think of the song right now

Don't know the title but then I never did like the stones to much. unless it was covered by Flying Burrito brothers also which would make it dead flowers but I think that's another song.

Once beneath the stars, the universe was ours. Love was all we knew, and all I knew was you. I wonder where you are, I wonder if you think about me Once upon a time, IN YOUR WILDEST DREAMS. It mig

I can't believe that Raf and I are the only ones who know this, Here's another verse, making it even EASIER:
He's got a girl named Jane with no last name
Kinda homely and plain but he loves her just the same
Cuz she kindles a flame and it drives him insane
When he hears her sing, she really does her thing
It's her claim to fame, come on, sing one Jane

Sheeesh!!
That was "Gitarzan" by Ray Stevens.
Try THIS:
I miss her lips, and the smile on her face
The touch of her and hand and the girl's warm embrace.

Keep away from Runaround Sue
The legendary Dion DiMucci
Since I know that one's right, how about this:
I saw ten thousand talkers whose tongues were all broken,
I saw guns and sharp swords in the hands of young children,

"It's A Hard Rain Gonna Fall".
-Edie Brickell covered it,
I think it was originally Bob Dylan's song.
Is that it?

That is it.
It was originally a Bob Dylan song.

Ooo, nice shot, then.
I recognized the cadence of the lines.

Ok,
here's one of my favourite quotes from any song.
"The heart that you break, that's the one that you rely on.
The bed that YOU make, that's the one you gotta lie on.
When you point your finger 'cause your plan fell thru
You got three more fingers pointing back at you"

"Session 3" by V.P. Wierwille? ;)

And of course, Runaround Sue was correct. I bet Pirate would have gotten the others, too. Where you been, bro?

No,
but as usual,
he took something extant and pretended it was his.
However, we're doing SONGS here, so... :)

"Well, now, take a look at that-
I made a castle in the sand,
Saying 'This is where it's at', you,
Couldn't understand how,
If I realized that my chances were slim,
How come I'm so surprised when the tide rolled in"

And I have no idea what WordWolf's song is.

I'm a bit surprised no one's gotten this yet.
It's hardly an unknown or obscure song.
I'll give it another shot....

I'm sticking to essential reality now

Hm.
I'm surprised this song hasn't been gotten.
I'll give it the rest of the day, then flip over the name and
post a different song. I really want to give a fair chance for this one
without stopping the thread entirely.
As it is, I'm fighting the urge to bang my head against a stone.
Which would hurt, since it's not hollow.
(Neither my head nor the stone would be hollow.)
Besides, I can pass on getting a concussion-
a major enough one would put my life in extreme danger.
Plus I'd be unconscious and unable to post the answer.

It's tough with fewer players.
I'm thinking Sharon, Belle or Steve! might have gotten it off the first post.
The answer was "Solid Rock" by Dire Straits.
Their most recognizable commercial hit was "Money for Nothing"
and their best-known song among rock rans is probably
"Sultans of Swing", not "Solid Rock."

Ok,
here's one more the speed of the current players.
"I'm a-walkin' in the rain,
Tears are fallin' and I feel the pain,
Wishin' you were here by me,
To end this misery"

"Runaway" by Del Shannon.
It's tough when you try to pick a song that someone will get without making it too easy.
"Well, the weeks went by and spring turned to summer and summer faded into the fall
and it turns out he was a missin' person who nobody missed at all!"

"Well I love her
But I love to fish
I spend all day out on this lake
And hell is all I catch
Today she met me at the door
Said I would have to choose
If I hit that fishin' hole today
She'd be packin' all her things
And she'd be gone by noon..."
