Greatful alive, huh? I have several Grateful Dead DVDs and I like the visible lyrics feature. Their lyrics are sometimes as hard to decypher as Stones lyrics. I also have a Fleetwood Mac VHS video called the Dance which has lyrics on screen.
And I LOVED Paul McCartney. No wardrobe malfunctions, no dancing hordes of Lost Boyz and Grrlz, just one of the most prolific songwriters and performers in the world. They made a good choice this year. The Super Bowl isn't too big a gig for Sir Paul, what can you say to a guy who's written one of the most recorded songs in modern history, "Yesterday"?
"Uh, we've got this football game we'd like you to play it. No, it's a really big football game".
Remember that song, "I'm not talkin' 'bout mliminim, and I don't wanna change your life...." I'm STILL not sure.
Socks, ditto what you said about Sir Paul at the Super Bowl. I was proud he was from my generation. Such class and warmth.
I judge performers not just on their musical ability but on how they connect with the audience. Like they're either just up there strutting their stuff and exposing their ta tas, or it's apparent that they actually CARE that the people out there are having a good time. Obviously Paul fits into the latter. Such a difference!
Dug the electronic effects, too.
It was such a relief from the crotch-grabbing 50-person (or is it 500? seems like 500) production numbers they've been doing of late!
Linda, that's the England Dan and John Ford Coley song and I too for YEARS couldn't figure that line out till heard my sister singing along to it once in the car. I always thought it was "I'm not talkin' 'bout aluminum, and I don't wanna
changeyer-rrmine.
How about Bruce Springsteen, "Born to Run", which always sounded to me like
"Wendys champs like us, baby weena bore nuh ruuuuuun..."
I thought they were singing, "I'm not talking bout the linen and I don't want to change your life..."
Sir Paul was definitely classy. Much better than previous bowls. I don't know why they try so hard to appeal to the Gen Xers when the typical demographics for the Super Bowl are older than that.
The song I never could figure out was "Bacon, Carrot, Biscuits" Every Day and what it has to do with working overtime.
My best friend and I used to sing at the top of our lungs with the radio when we were riding around. Shortly after Amadeus came out we were singing along and I realized she was singing "Hot Potatoes, Hot Potatoes...Hot Potatoes" :D-->
When the song Drift Away was popular (the original by Dobie Grey, not the remake by whoever it was) I used to think he was saying "Give me the Beach Boys, and free my soul". Always wondered why he was singing about the Beach Boys. -->
Bacon carrots biscuits? That's funny. Ozzy Osbourne once said when he first heard Hendrix sing 'Purple Haze' he thought he was saying "scuse me while I kiss this guy". There's a song on the Stones' 1975 album 'Black and blue' called "Melody" and I still can't figure out what they're saying. It sounds like "melody. it pours a sucker name" but that can't be it.

Conversely, my nature was bordering anal to learn the correct words to bastardized lyrics or playful mumbo-jumbo (not skat)
neeby nop nubby neeby nobby nubby na na na lo lo......starshine
cucucachu cucucucachu...walrus
scooby dooby doo, doo doo doo dee dah...frank
On another note,Santana provided me endless opportunity to splurf lyrics...lol...
yew godda change yer evil waze, baby
be four eyes got to say is true...
or
yewhang around, baby
your jeans are gone with who knows who...
