Stayed Too Long

There are around 750 people who work for the company I am employeed, and are located in four different locations around the city. We have a huge company breakfast, and then each division has its own smaller get togethers sometime during the season. In the summer there are similar picnics.

It do attend most of my division parties because it is nice visiting with the families of my fellow employees. It is enjoyable seeing how much their kids have grown, what school events they are involved with, and what kinds of promotions or trouble their spouses have managed to get themselves into.

I have attended some of the company parties but since I know relatively few of the employees there, it is not so comfortable mingly around. I usually end up just hanging out with my division employees.

ha ha Shell!

It depends on the company. I've attended many that were all about being in jeans, drinking shots, and "letting your hair down" they were a blast!

This year, this company. . . fancy todo at a country club. I would prefer to stay home. But I've passed on every invitation to schmooze up to this point, so I feel obligated to attend this one. I love my job, but do not really socialize with anyone at work beyond general courtesies. They like to think of themselves as one big happy family (they must be deaf to the girls whispering in the corners, back stabbing each other).

I will go, I will eat and schmooze and I will beg out early cause my babysitter has school the next day. icon_smile.gif:)-->

Actually,

Am going to one tonight.

There is usually about 400-500 people at this party. It's more like a ball.

The food is good and the music is usually a DJ. They give out awards and such for years of service at this time. It's a pretty formal affair. We usually sit at the table with my husband's branch office.

The downside...they're all engineers. icon_rolleyes.gif:rolleyes:--> (say no more)

I usually go to them too. 400 or so folks work for our company, and yea -- most usually end up sitting with the folks they work with directly, from the various houses they are staff at.

While we may not know each other -- we all know of the many different group homes run by the company, and when people introduce themselves, it's usually "Hi -- I'm ***** from Mankato house" or something similar.

The feed they put on is great, and a lot of us show up directly from work, so it is never formal. The cash bar is pretty expensive, icon_eek.gif so most save their money for the beer joint down the road. I think I'll dress up this year, in my formal GreaseSpot Cafe T-shirt! icon_biggrin.gif:D-->

ps -- I'm David, from Noumenon. icon_smile.gif:)-->

I usually go to em...they are usually kinda fancy with open bars and fairly good food. I've always kinda wished they would be less formal...like at the boss' home with horses-doovers n drink n good company.

Lo and behold..this year the party is at our principal's home with horsey-doovers n drink n good company and not fancy 'tall.

mystevey is of course goin with me and the buzz amongst the staff is that everyone is REALLY looking forward to it. The down side being that everyone hangs in the kitchen and it gets too crowded. What a great problem to have!!!

I went last night ! as a guest I have gone in years past this company goes all out. many travel for this party and stay in a hotel for the weekend. open bar fine dining, 50,000 dollars in fake money for everyone to gamble with after dinner this year they had about 9 different games.

it is fUN! then after everyone is drunk and silly they have a auction where ya bid with your winning!!! fun fun fun stuff like motorcycles dvd players everything under the sun is available. for those who gamble and lost they also have the regular door prize numbers and nice prizes. It is the only time all the different plants get together and meet one another. I meet people from all over the place . it is fun.

I go to mine every year and enjoy it. Our office is a bit of a pressure-cooker, what with all the deadlines and crises that come up most days, so it's nice to get together in a relaxed setting! We only have about 20 people in our little company, so I know everyone well and like them (most days icon_wink.gif;)-->).

This year we're going to an Irish pub for dinner, then to a comedy club. Should be fun. The fact that this event is where we get our annual bonus checks only adds to our anticipation of its arrival! icon_biggrin.gif:D-->

We also do a summer outing. This year we went to Six Flags and had a blast. The boss chartered a "limo bus" for us--a bus with cushy bench seating along both sides and a TV in the front.

We played games on they way to the amusement park for cheesy prizes (I won a camping tarp!). On the way home, I called the local oldies radio station from the bus and dedicated a song to the boss on behalf of all of us. We all got a laugh out of hearing our company name on the radio. Ah, memories.

Speaking of office party memories..

Many years ago, when I was but a lass of about 18, I worked for a loan company that had several offices around the city. I hung out at the company office party one year with a guy from another office whom I'd had lots of dealings with over the phone but didn't know very well.

The guy asked if I'd give him a ride home, and I said sure. Never mind that I lived in a suburb about 15 miles on one side of town and he lived in a subburb about 20 miles on the other side of town, where I'd never been.

One problem. The guy was apparently drunker than I realized, and he passed out in my car on the drive to his house!! It was a very rural area, and I had no clue where he lived, where we were, or how to get back to my familiar side of town. An adventure, indeed.

Eventually I got him to wake up and show me how to get to his place, then I managed to find my way back home.

The moral of the story is that if you decide to be a designated driver for one of your workmates who's tipped a few too many, make sure you get a map while he or she is still able to draw one. icon_biggrin.gif:D--> icon_biggrin.gif:D--> icon_biggrin.gif:D-->

Had a very good time at my division party. We rented 4 lanes at the bowling alley and everyone seemed to enjoy throwing a ball at mostly regulation pins with a few colored ones tossed in to possibly win a prize.

We had a side pot with everyone throwing in a dollar. For every stike you threw, you drew 2 playing cards, and for every spare you drew 1. After the 10th frame the person with the highest poker hand won the pot (I had a jack high staight, but was beat by a queen high icon_biggrin.gif:D-->).

The bosses had an open tab at the bar for about an hour so that was nice too. Plenty of horses-doovers to snack on also.

Our company has two every January, half the stores go one Friday night and half the next. We use the local auditorium/arena that is normally used for concerts, basketball games and indoor football.

We have cocktails, dinner, dancing and a prize drawing. I've gone every year; this will be my sixth.

There usually is a lot of drinking, and occassionally someone needs to be shut off or escorted home, but generally everyone is pretty well behaved.
