As soon as you mentioned the calypso, I didn't even have to open the link. Great scene!
It's funny...I had known about the star Betelgeuse since I was a kid, but I didn't know it was pronounced "Beetlejuice" until I told my boss about the movie.
And Sudo it was a little later than your dates and not cop related.
Here is a quote from the show as another hint:
There's a dark side to each and every human soul. We wish we were Obi-Wan Kenobi, and for the most part we are, but there's a little Darth Vader in all of us. Thing is, this ain't no either-or proposition. We're talking about dialectics, the good and the bad merging into us. You can run but you can't hide. My experience? Face the darkness. Stare it down. Own it. As brother Nietzsche said, being human is a complicated gig. So give that ol' dark night of the soul a hug. Howl the eternal yes!
Ok It was "Northern Exposure". That quote had to be Chris the radio DJ although he spoke more then played records. And it was filmed (at least the opening) 20 miles from where I went WOW the first time. And about 50 miles from where Twin peaks was filmed (Snoqualmie Falls).
and besides that Janine Turner was so HoTTTTTT!!!! hey I got married I didn't go blind. The wife often uses the name "Ed Chigliak" when describing someone'sn acting ability. As in "He went to the Ed Chigliak school of acting"

I was wondering if that was it. I couldn't remember too many Tim Burton movies.

Chatty,
That's not Barney Miller or some cop show is it? It sounds late 70'ish to early 80's to my ears. Am I close on any of it??

I can picture who said it and where he was even without remembering the quote. It could have been only him that said it.

Sounds very familiar. My first guess was "Evening Shade,' but a quick google proved that to be incorrect.

Kathy,
I know it now but I had to Google it. 'Ya know, I just haven't watched a lot of TV the last 15 years. But I used to sit glued to it as a kid.

I'll answer if no one else does but I'm not good at doing the quotes so that's why I haven't answered.
It does help that I taped most of the shows just haven't watched them in awhile.

Sudo,
You know all the cool ones from when we were kids.
bulwinkl,
Please name the show we both loved.

I would watch the reruns if they were on somewhere. It was one of the most entertaining series I've ever watched. The characters were wonderful.
Thanks bulwinkl!

She was a very cool woman I thought. But then all the women could pretty much stand their own couldn't they? :)
