Kathy,

I see you found your own link to the Dan Fogelburg version. It reminds me just a WHOLE lot of Harry Chapin's Taxi.. and follow up. How strongly we loved as youngsters.

Yes it is much like Harry Chapin's version and I love both.

I have the CD but hadn't linked it to my server account and I forgot my password and can't get into it unless I use my PC which is not turned on so I decided to just find a version I could bring here.

I'm getting excited about the move to Florida. Have already dismantled our guest room so we can use it for storage. Well one side of the room will be bins and such as we pack and the other side will be moving sale things. Since I was informed we aren't taking everything with us. :(

I know the time will fly and before I know it spring will be here and we will be heading down the highway........

Kathy,

I recorded this entire movie last night for just a few clips I think you'll enjoy.. They are large clips so if you don't have broadband, 'ya gotta' save them and view them later. But this guy did this with no formal training I understand.. Is he even looking at the keyboard at the end? Know who he is? What movie is it from?? Click HERE! I've gots more!

I know who it is and what movie it's from but I'm never sure if I'm supposed to tell.

He had 4 brothers, 3 of whom were in several movies with him, until one brother dropped out because his parts consisted of saying 'yes, sir'.

This movie was made with the 3 most famous brothers-though the piano player is probably the least famous-whatever that means.

They used to refer to his piano playing as 'shooting the keys', and in real life was mosty famous for gambling and womanizing-maybe not in that order.

Hiway29,

You're doing it just fine. Everyone who really knows now knows that you have it too. I've gots two more from that movie but it just astounds me how talented Minnie's boys were musically!

Does anyone need hints? How 'bout this one.. a city in North Africa.

What more can be said?? I have two more from the movie... I'm saving the one that really blows me away but here's another of said same performer. These performances MUST be part of why this is considered a 4 star movie. Click HERE!

Only one of them lived to what you might call a ripe old age. And the tabloids were full of his last days suffering with Alzheimer's' and supposedly being taken advantage of by a lady young enough to be his daughter.. or granddaughter, if I remember correctly. I was still in school at the time.

Hiway29 and Kathy,

OK.. here's my favorite and I think the both of youse know what it is.. now don't you? Kathy alluded to "Whereas his brother was a more classical player of his instrument I thought." and just to let ya'll know.. not only was he NOT classically trained but he had classically trained musicians studing his own made-up unique style. He played this instrument like a dang piano. I've NEVER heard anyone come close to matching it.

Hiway29.. I didn't know these guys were so old at the time. But I remember when the last one died and feeling so sad about a passing of an era. Anywho.. click HERE! and listen to something special! Uh.. you guys might want to turn your speaker sound up some.. its a little soft.

Such a beautiful instrument and if it were possible for the wood and strings to have thanked him afterwards I bet they would have.

That is interesting Sudo, I believe I may have read that in the past but had forgotten it.

It seems to me that someone playing an instrument simply for the love of it and not trying to master the formal techniques could open up new avenues of sound.

I know that in other countries they don't just follow our acceptable range of chords and notes and to me it sounds odd almost, yet to them it is obviously beautiful.

In our American blues we do some of that with tuning (SRV was a master of it) so maybe we have more of what I am talking about than I am giving credit to.

So in other words just go on with what you were doing prior to reading me.

You guys have it alright...

The movie was A Night In Casablanca. I have another classic movie downloaded and will post a couple of clips later. I'm thinking of bowing out of this thread, though guys. The Nostalgia thread has run for years and years but now... I'm the only one posting and there's little interest. No hard feelings but I think like all good TV shows there comes a time to call it quits.

I'll have something up tomorrow but it may be one of my lasts. It takes such a long time to take these downloaded movies and snip portions out to post. And there's so few folks participating but hey! I've had fun doing it!

I'm sorry you feel that way, Sudo. I haven't posted much lately because

a.) I don't have much to say about the Marx Brothers that hasn't been said, and

b.) your latest clips open with Windows Media Player, but I don't get sound or picture, just a progress bar moving along the bottom to show me how much has "played." Should I have tried RealPlayer? Normally, your clips that require it open with it, anyway.

But it doesn't mean I haven't enjoyed the discussions.

George
