Not without googling.

I watched a lot of "Father Knows Best" growing up, but it wan't until I just checked IMDB that I realized they were all reruns. The only character I recall being called "Princess" was Elinor Donohue, but I assumed that you didn't mean her, as I thought FKB wan't on until the mid-60's. The "badge but no gun" reference is familiar, but I can't remember who that was supposed to be. Gene Barry was "Bat Masterson," but I don't picture him strumming a guitar.

George

Of course, there WAS a sheriff in North Carolina who dated Elinor...

In answer to Bluzeman's post, and I hope it's ok by sudo for me to tell-but I figure it's all out now anyway-

That was Andy and Elinor Donahue, not Helen Crump. Elinor Donahue played Andy's on/off girlfriend in the first season of the Andy Griffith Show, long before Helen Crump moved to Mayberry. Elinor was just coming off Father Knows Best whereshe was 'princess' Betty.

On the Andy Griffith show, she ran the pharmacy, and seemed more of an adversary than a girlfriend to Andy.

The clip is from the Christmas episode from the first season, Ellinor singing with Andy backing her, and it is a nice moment.

Rick,

Re:"...but isn't that Andy and Helen from the Andy Griffith Show?"

You're half right but Hiway29 is 100% right. It was Elinor Donahue singing with Andy Griffith and what a great rendition it was, too, IMO. I never knew she could sing. Can anyone remember her singing anywhere else? Can it possibly be true that I have just posted (click HERE!) the ONLY recording of Elinor Donahue in song? But C'mon everyone.. did you LIKE the song or not? That's part of this thing, you know. Personally? I think it was great!! I LOVED the way they did that song!

I've gots lots of these tunes so I'm hoping we all have a great time here this Christmas season on the nostalgia thread. Here's a-Tonther one. Click HERE! And Hiway29?? You're doing good on the subtle thing :).

That was of course from the show about the fellow who got rich on black gold, Texas Tea. I'm not sure I know who the old coot is hitting on Daisy though.

Sudo may be right in having the only singing recording of Elinor Donahue. It seems like every teen from the sitcoms, from Paul Peterson to Don Grady, had music albums out back then. Elinor MAY have some obscure pop record lost in time.

And yes-it was a very nice moment. I can't think of any current programs that develop characters in such a way to even make moments like that feasible anymore, and I think we've lost something-I know I watch ALOT less tv.
