Cathy------These guitars(also commonly called resonophonic guitars were quite popular before the advent of electricity and amplifiers. The "pie plate" acts as a built in amplifier.
National Guitar made one that was made completely out of metal and often had ornate Hawaiian designs inscribed. They are often refered to as "National Steels". The are not only great sounding but beautiful works of art as well.
I saw Scott Ainslee play a 1939 model at the Hot Licks a couple years ago. He is a true master of the instrument . He also played a diddley bow(one stringed guitar) but that is a whole other story.
Ok-here's a video clip of a little song you all may remember. What I liked about it was the story told before the song-made it all the more special. (Ignore the 800 #-it's from 1987: I doubt it's working :) )
I enjoyed your video but since nobody's commented I have to know.. Who *IS* that exactly? He doesn't sound like the lead singer of The Lovin' Spoonfuls to me.
And Chas... I much prefer her in high heels and garters
Looks like this might be a good time to recapitulate. We had so much being posted I didn't want to jump in and derail so to speak. But going back several days, I failed to answer Hiway29 about his guess. Actually, turns out he wasn't guessing. I had posted a clip (HERE!) and Hiway29 knew the actor was Arthur Treacher of fish and chips fame. Anyone remember those fish and chips places? I didn't care for the way they did the fish and thought it probably Americanized. The fish was probably done differently in England but I do digress, don't I??
Here's another clip from the same movie.. oh, and I forget.. was it Tops who guessed the movie? But yes, it was about the little girl who searched the hospitals fo her daddy.. The Little Princess. Only in this longer clip of the dream sequence (click (HERE!) we see a future television Robin Hood and Batman Joker. Does anyone recognize them?
I remember the Robin Hood series well but then.. I have a few years on some here. Click on the picture below of Robin Hood to see a short clip. Look familiar??

She was 96.
Goodbye, Jane. Like Hiway said-one very classy lady.

I must leave the screen now for a bit but we must get together again soon, you know so much stuff it's fun to listen to you talk.
Rick has one also, you might have known.
And Hot Licks next year, right?!
See ya later alligator.

Tops, I'm tickled you came along and am honored to have been a piece of your instruction along the way.
All have a good day; I must go out and enjoy the sun which has hidden from us all week.

Thank you, Kathy!
I've been quiet 'cause I have no idea who Betty Paige is. Don't know that I should.
You have a great day and I'll have something nice for you when you get back.
Morning to everyone else!

wow that's a rarity-for years, she refused to make public appearances, just to avoid being photographed.
she had no reason to hide-she looks great there

Did you ever have to make up your mind
Pick up on one and leave the other behind
It's not often easy and not often kind
Did you ever have to make up your mind
Did you ever have to finally decide
Say yes to one and let the other one ride
There's so many changes and tears you must hide
Did you ever have to finally decide
His looks gave him away but I couldn't put a name to him at first.

I love that sequence, Sudo. "What I say, I saw, I saw-I know my rights, I know the law!"
No, I didn't recognize anyone-any hints?

Let's see: remove the turban, shave the beard, paint the face white, and you have Adam West's nemesis.
Robun Hood? I dunno.

I'd say a 'little' pizza place owner did a little 'roaming' from that particular role.

a goodbye to Jane Wyatt, who just passed at 95 or so.
She was one classy tv mom on 'Father Knows Best', and a fitting mother for Spock, among many other film roles.
I think she even one more than 1 emmy for Father Knows best. In the age of memorable tv moms, that was saying something.

She was one of the mom's I liked, more real and not a frumpy stepford kind. Well something like that anyway.

Just got a second and I"m out the door. But...John Sebastian is probably best known for singing THIS song.

I don't even have to listen.
Let me guess: Vinnie Barbarino, Horshack, the Sweathogs, and of course, Gabe.

Rick,
George got it, huh? We've played that theme on occasion here but I didn't realize until this very day that it was Sebastian all along.
