And I've enjoyed the music even though I've not said so.
Ala, we were posting at the same time. You are doing wonderfully. Don't fret about the title thing for now. Just enjoy posting because we enjoy listening. We just don't always mention that I've noticed. (((you)))
Good to see you back on this thread. When you go away this joint just ain't the same and everybody sure did miss you. But now all is OK cause the queen of this house is back in bizz.
Oh OK... Kathy gets a raise. As of this moment I'm DOUBLING what I'm paying her now! Are you happy now???
Kathy, Now that you have your big raise more things are expected out of you. What? You don't like Ricky Nelson anymore? Here's a song that was probably released about that same year... 1957. Click HERE! and name the crooner!
Hey Ted! Jump in here, guy. I bet YOU know it too.
Back in the early days of pop music, it was not unusual for more than one group, or singer to make the top 100 charts with the same song. And in more than a few cases, for 2 groups to have the same song chart in the same week. This was one of those songs and I'm not really up on my late 50's pop music. Pat Boon charted with this one, as did andy williams. And I listen to Pat and Andy RARELY, so I wouldn't be able to even make a guess. But if I HAD to guess, comparing the voice to Moon River, I would guess Andy.
Rick
Edited to say, make that late 50's/early 60's cause I'm not sure which time frame this song was from.

Ted, if ever a person wanted a cheer(ing) leader they'd do themselves well to come to you. Thank you my friend for the warm smile.

Are you sure that ain't Pat Boone even though it says someone else (which I think you have there to trick us  don't ya).
Well then I reckon I best give another clue for this huge pay that I'm being paid. HERE
Ted, it really is nice seeing you here. I hope your computer is the last thing you close down before heading south.
And how wonderful "D" will be there as your best man. Tell him I'd come sing with him for your ceremony except the last time we tried to sing together he accidentally knocked my glasses off so I don't know if he's safe. :P
Ala, I think you gave me this momentary run on posting bug. :)
Another one from that same era of which that baby Rick will probably not recognize either. ;) HERE
(Sudo, sorry I didn't fix your html thingee in my quote of yours)
Thought I'd post a few more celtic tunes... (ya' I'm still on that kick  )
Ok..this group I've mention many a time over the years...I've seen them a few times in concert and they are absolutely dynamic!
They're Newfies and completely on the edge...they take old traditional Irish music and/or folklore Newfoundland tunes and turn them into the wildest songs!
I'm going to take a chance here because of that song you posted... Radio Sweethearts... and bet you're a sentimentalist. Kathy and Mooney have known this about me fer a long time. So I'm posting this song which I don't expect anyone to know... but it has my instrument.. French horns.. it has sentimentality. And I'm posting it because I think I may not be the only one who really likes it. I've degraded the quality for posting purposes but I have the good version to post if anyone wants it... its just that its over 9 meg in size. Click HERE!
I recognized it as soon as I heard the first couple of notes! (Just when you think nobody will recognize it.) Roger has a beautiful voice and his music is so distinctive. The french horns is what makes this song to haunting.
I'm not familiar with the original version of this song.. but I DO Roger!
Like Moony...new it after the first 2 notes!
My my...what a singer... what a WHISTLER!! Have you ever heard him whistle... he has a song called the African Whistler... absolutely amazing. Said he learnt it from the African Tribes in Kenya where he grew up.
My favourite is Une Rose Pour Isabelle.... I remember going into the library for hours in high school and listening to that song over and over.
Sudo, I not only know this song, it's one of my favorite oldies. In fact, I posted some lyrics in the "Name That Tune" thread. I was impressed that Pirate recognized it, since I posted only part of the second verse!
I'm glad you posted it as a wav file. I probably would have skipped it if it were another mp3 or m4a!
Well, I am "master of the game" after all. Thanks for the accolade there, Sudo.
When that song was big (about 1975?), I was working at a place where we had the radio on all day and they played that about every 15 minutes it seemed like.
I liked hearing "The Scotsman" again too. If you ever get the chance to see Mike Cross live, check it out. He puts on a great show. He'll be at the Neighborhood Theater here in Charlotte on February 18th and I've already got my tickets.
Well today January 25th is officially Robbie Burns Day....
I must continue on my Celtic quest here...
And in honour of Robbie...I will now post 4 Scottish tunes.
The first one is from a group called Old Blind Dogs... Just give a listen and you'll here that Scottish brogue come right through your speakers...it just brings a warm feeling right through me.
The next two songs are from a group also from the Isle of Scots. These twin brothers made it famous when their songs were used in movies ... especially a Disney filmed named Shrek. The Proclaimers are a sound all unto their own. I've even put a song here that is an old American favourite.
And last but not least how can we celebrate Robbie Burns day without a good ole' fiddle tune. This fiddler Alasdair Fraser is one of the best fiddlers i've heard in long while. He and his cellist do a remarkable and unique job of capturing a sound that is all their own.
OK...I'm figuring that the reason no one is responding here is because they have no flippin' idea what these Scots are singing about especially in the first song by Old Blind Dogs
So Sudo... and for others who might want to know... here are the words
This is all I can offer.... the rest ... well, is for you to decipher. I'm not a Gaelic specialist....I'll stick to french
KINKARDINE LADS
(traditional)
A song from the Stonehaven area which celebrates illicitly distilled whisky. Those Scots sure know how to live!
Re:"I'm glad you posted it as a wav file. I probably would have skipped it if it were another mp3 or m4a!"
I'm glad you told me that, George. Lately I've been kind of lazy in posting tunes because I thought everyone here had a broadband connection so it didn't really matter if they were huge files or not. Back when we started doing the Nostalgia thread, those of us who posted tunes ALWAYS converted the files to a lower quality WAV format so people with dial-up could hear them right off. But as more and more folks got broadband... I didn't take the care I once did in converting the files.
I'm surprised everyone knew Roger Whittaker. He sings songs from another generation. A generation represented by Ala Prochaine's Radio Sweethearts. In that light, I have two to post for those who feel drawn to the America of those times. Click HERE! I'll tell you this much...it's Benny Goodman. And to compliment it.. Click HERE! Does it bring a lump to your throat?
That was the first time I've ever heard the second song. Thanks for posting it.
The music posted here has been so great lately, that I'm not even going to foul the room with any cartoon or old tv junk. I won't even speculate on whether Disney buying Pixar will either save or ruin the animation industry.
The jazz band I perform with also does a version of "Sunny Side of the Street," so I recognized it immediately. I don't remember "Durham Town," but it was pleasant.
As for wav vs. mp3, I do have broadband, but even still, it takes more time to download those files than I really care to give. Especially when someone posts about five songs at once. This thread seems to have morphed into "Here are all my favorite songs." That's not necessarily a bad thing, it's just not what I found interesting and which attracted me to this thread.
