Back in the early days of pop music, it was not unusual for more than one group, or singer to make the top 100 charts with the same song. And in more than a few cases, for 2 groups to have the same song chart in the same week. This was one of those songs and I'm not really up on my late 50's pop music. Pat Boon charted with this one, as did andy williams. And I listen to Pat and Andy RARELY, so I wouldn't be able to even make a guess. But if I HAD to guess, comparing the voice to Moon River, I would guess Andy.

So I'm posting this song which I don't expect anyone to know... but it has my instrument.. French horns.. it has sentimentality. And I'm posting it because I think I may not be the only one who really likes it. I've degraded the quality for posting purposes but I have the good version to post if anyone wants it... its just that its over 9 meg in size. Click HERE!

My my...what a singer... what a WHISTLER!! Have you ever heard him whistle... he has a song called the African Whistler... absolutely amazing. Said he learnt it from the African Tribes in Kenya where he grew up.
My favourite is Une Rose Pour Isabelle.... I remember going into the library for hours in high school and listening to that song over and over.

When that song was big (about 1975?), I was working at a place where we had the radio on all day and they played that about every 15 minutes it seemed like.
I liked hearing "The Scotsman" again too. If you ever get the chance to see Mike Cross live, check it out. He puts on a great show. He'll be at the Neighborhood Theater here in Charlotte on February 18th and I've already got my tickets.
Well today January 25th is officially Robbie Burns Day....
I must continue on my Celtic quest here...
And in honour of Robbie...I will now post 4 Scottish tunes.
The first one is from a group called Old Blind Dogs... Just give a listen and you'll here that Scottish brogue come right through your speakers...it just brings a warm feeling right through me.
The next two songs are from a group also from the Isle of Scots. These twin brothers made it famous when their songs were used in movies ... especially a Disney filmed named Shrek. The Proclaimers are a sound all unto their own. I've even put a song here that is an old American favourite.
And last but not least how can we celebrate Robbie Burns day without a good ole' fiddle tune. This fiddler Alasdair Fraser is one of the best fiddlers i've heard in long while. He and his cellist do a remarkable and unique job of capturing a sound that is all their own.

I'm glad you told me that, George. Lately I've been kind of lazy in posting tunes because I thought everyone here had a broadband connection so it didn't really matter if they were huge files or not. Back when we started doing the Nostalgia thread, those of us who posted tunes ALWAYS converted the files to a lower quality WAV format so people with dial-up could hear them right off. But as more and more folks got broadband... I didn't take the care I once did in converting the files.
I'm surprised everyone knew Roger Whittaker. He sings songs from another generation. A generation represented by Ala Prochaine's Radio Sweethearts. This thread seems to have morphed into "Here are all my favorite songs." That's not necessarily a bad thing, it's just not what I found interesting and which attracted me to this thread.
