George,

Re:"By the way, is there some reason we're not actually mentioning ****** **** icon_confused.gif:confused:-->"

Yeah, like Kathy was mentioning.. its sorta' the way we do things here to not give it away just in case someone doesn't know it. In this case?? Looks like everyone knows it's Family Feud. I couldn't understand why it was so popular but I watched it like everyone else it seemed. I was glad to see Hiway29 call Dawson a perv because I couldn't stand all that kissing the women on the lips thingee.

And speaking of Richard Dawson... he has a tie-in in this next theme clip. Click HERE! and see if you remember it. Does it seem vaguely familiar for some reason?? icon_razz.gif:P-->

While Richard Dawson was kind of a perv on Family Feud, he couldn't begin to match Bob Crane's real life. Crane was addicted to making home porno movies years before vcr's, or other technology.

I don't recall the details, but he was ultimately bludgeoned to death by some guy, who had some connection to this 'pasttime'. A quick google search will fill in the blanks I'm sure.

Sudo's theme does sound familiar, but I can't place it. Sounded kind of like 'The Odd Couple' turned inside out.

Before we move on completely from Family Feud (there, I SAID IT!), I'd like to point out that I watched it regularly until one night when the question was, "Name someone at the Last Supper." One contestant guessed Jesus, which turned out to be the NUMBER 3 CHOICE icon_eek.gif; the other said Peter, who turned out to be No. 1. The family of the latter contestant, guessed John and Judas, but couldn't get the last choice. (They tried Thomas, Matthew, and James without success, for three strikes.) The other team jumped in with Paul. DING!! They won because two people in the audience were that unaware. icon_rolleyes.gif:rolleyes:-->

I never watched it again.

George

And yes, the new theme is familiar. It has a 70's feel to it, but I can't place it.

Oh NO you SAID IT! nono5.gifwink2.gif;)-->

quote:
God: Moses, this is the Lord, thy God, commanding you to obey my law. Do you hear me?

Moses: Yes, I hear you, I hear you... a deaf man could hear you! God - What?!

This may be an easy quote but does anyone know what movie it came from?

(okay back to work I reckon)

Kathy,

Re:"I just don't leave here much."

That's because we love you down here, you know. Those other threads will use you then toss you away when they're done with you. But The Nostalgia Thread® is the one true thread doncha' know angelkit.gif. Hee-hee!

I didn't think anyone would know the last one I posted (click HERE!) even though it was a fairly popular show that ran for 4 years in the early 70's. I thought the rhythm of the theme song was similar to the theme song of the star's earlier program.

Listening to it again, I really don't know so here's a variation on the theme of the star's first TV show..click HERE!... and see if you think they're at all similar.

And Kathy... it does feel like home here, doesn't it??

P.S. So far I've been batting .1000 in guessing what songs you'd like so let's see if I can keep it up. I took two of my kids to see Madagascar yesterday (Ellen is in Europe for two weeks) and when we got out I heard this song playing in the lobby. I had never heard it before but when I got home I googled some of the words and found out what it was. I LOVE this song. This is a big file.. 7 meg.. so give it some time to load and play it on GOOD speakers. Click HERE!!!!

I recognize the theme immediately after hearing the original-even though you played the first season version of the original, which was kind of different than the theme we all know.

I'm not sure what Richard Dawson's connection to the second series was. If he was a costar I don't remember it. I do remember the star had the show set and filmed in Arizona, where he lived, and if memory serves, Hope Lange played his wife, while his 'first' wife was getting ready to move to Minneapolis and begin a landmark series of her own.

I'm not sure his second series was even 'fairly popular' tho. It never caught on, really tho everyone loved the star.-and still do

It makes me think of a man that has a three letter first name that sounds the same said frontward or backwards.

This one reminds me of an ottoman.

I waited to join y'all here which was my error. Yes it is very much home Sudo. icon_smile.gif:)-->

By the way (and involving nostalgia but not old TV shows) does anyone else remember "Turkey Sir Gay" and "Chicken Sir Gay"? They were processed turkey or chicken meat, respectively, pressed into the form of the appropriate fowl. I think Swanson's made them. I thought they were great (of course, I was probably about ten at the time), which is pretty much the death knell for anything. icon_rolleyes.gif:rolleyes:--> They don't even show up on a Google search!

Kathy,

Why thank you!! I just knew you'd love that song like me. That's Faith Hill and I don't remember hearing that song before. But then.. I don't listen to music radio.. except lite rock at the office.

I can remember only two other times that a song playing on the radio really made me take notice like this one did. Total Eclipse Of The Heart about 20 years ago was one, and... get this... Paradise By The Dashboard Light by Meatloaf. icon_biggrin.gif:D-->

Nobody else here has commented on it so maybe its just you and me who love it, huh?? But then.. good speakers make all the difference in the world for this song, I think. So... I'm still batting a .1000??

Sudo, I have to be away for awhile but I've never been fond of Faith Hill after a song that had something about "breathe" in it. Yuck! But her voice and the backup singers and the beat (dang) and the lyrics and the...... icon_smile.gif:)-->

Paradise By The Dashboard Light..... wink2.gif;)-->

(I think I meant a song with "kiss" being repeated...that one is yuck!)

The entire 'Bat Out of Hell' album by Meatloaf, with 'Paradise..', is quite an experience.

"Total Eclipse of the Heart' is a good song that almost was ruined for me when martindale started making 'Total Eclipse of the Brain' jokes.

I dug the Faith Hill song-just didn't have any comment besides I liked it.

That's a pretty nice bargain of cartoons there Kathy., tho I'm sure they're mostly grainy, poor copies-it's a nice selection of animated madness through the years.

'Uncle Tom's Bungalow' is of course a joke. It was a Warner Bros cartoon made during a time when they made many black cartoons-none of which could be played on tv today. While, unfortunate caricatures, watermelon, fried chicken, and gambling jokes were prevelant, some of them, like 'Coal Black and De Sebben Drwarves', are quite good.

'A-lad- in Bagdad' features the insufferable Egghead, who could have caused a war , as being one of the most unlikeable cartoon 'stars' ever.

Didn't Sudo have a clip of that for us on (may it rest in peace) Nostalgia One?

I may have seen it when young, it sounds a little familiar. I just looked and saw that Warner Bros went to several places in their cartoons. I peeked from 29 to 53 (thought good place to stop). And they traveled in cartoon to these locations: Dutch, Africa, Switzerland, Egypt, Tokyo, Russia, Mexico, and France. Well whatever that means. icon_razz.gif:P-->
