I've tied up a boatload of stimulators and nymphs.
Stimulators are my favorite for just about any time of year. They don't require the patience of a chironomid or the constant action of hare's ear or other sub-surface fly.
You tie them yourself? Nice job...
I usually keep the body yellow all the way or maybe switch to orange, and sometimes use a black hackle to immitate a yellow jacket, if those are out.
Damn, I haven't even wet a line in over two years now!
I fly fish for Dolly Varden with salmon smolt imitations on the Chilkat River in Haines, Alaska with my Hardys split bamboo fly rod. It is similar to fishing with nymphs, fishing wet and waiting for that electrifying "tap tap"...
What a sport! My dad always told me; "If you ever get bored of fishing, start using a flyrod...."
My biggest Dolly to date is a six plus pounder, and what a blast that was!
