Personally I don't get it. Why remake Kojak with a black actor no matter how good he might be? It's been a long time but part of what made Kojak different was that he was supposed to be Greek.
If USA wants to put on a detective show with Ving Rhames that's great, but why try to make him Kojak? It makes no sense.
I think it's more that Hollywood's too lazy to come up with new ideas so they rehash old ones.
Do we really need a remake of "The Longest Yard" or "The Bad News Bears? They're coming out this summer. Not to mention the black version of "The Honeymooners" with Cedric the Entertainer as Ralph and Mike Epps as Norton. That should be interesting.

Everything old is now "new" again...
Charlie' Angels
The Dukes of Hazard
Starsky & Hutch
...lots of other re-makes...
As long as they leave "I Love Lucy" alone, I'll be happy...
...and if they don't, I don't want to know about it!!

Hollywood has a saying - "go with what works".
For example, look how many CSI shows are on right now - "CSI: SVU", "CSI: Miami", "CSI: Baghdad", just to name 3.
Right now remakes of old series are hot. They're going for the nostalgia factor.

Excuse me, that's CSI: New York.
CSI: Baghdad will take place in a suburb of Detroit after a Pistons game every week.

I thought they already made a black version of the Honeymooners. It was called "Roc," and it did.

And a remake of Herbie: the Love Bug, and a remake of Charlotte's Web.
A remake that's just *screaming* to be done is "The Horn Blows at Midnight", originally starring Jack Benny.
