Orange Cat
Piano girl - this troubles me that you can't read for pleasure. I've noticed that when my bifocals need a tweak that I start reading less, then I realize it and go for an eye dr. appt. But it may be some sort of cult hold over , some denial of self for whatever reason, for that I'd recommend anything by Roberston Davies. A brilliant Canadian novelist. Each page brings deep pleasure and something worth pondering a marvelous antidote to twi. Or Paul Theroux - one of his journey books. Or James Herriot like someone mentioned above. Or whatever works! I hope you find something that clicks. Orange Cat color>

Steve!
Ahh, James Herriott, "All Creatures Great and Small", quite a series of books, that. Well written, and entertaining. I usually don't care for biographies, but he has a down-home style that I enjoy.
Orange Cat
Actually the James Herriot books are not strictly biographies. I've read a couple real biographies of Alf (his real name) and they claim about 50% of the books were made up of anedotes borrowed from common vet jokes of the time. As opposed to VP who made up 90%!
